Its closer to 4.75 for 5 seeing as that picks success rate in either draft is so low. He got worse value, it was in division as well, so it wasn't good.


Still, its a 6th. Teams may not wanted to trade next years for this years pick. Nine times out of ten neither player is going to be anything.

If the NFL had 14 rounds, and they did this in the 12th, it would be a curiosity, which is what this is. It's an odd move, but not a reason to get your blood pressure up. Maybe he wants to trade 2 6ths for a 5th next year?

A current asset is never equivalent to a similarly priced asset in the future. It always costs you to get access to an asset now when paying with a future asset. You’re purchasing the time value of the asset. Granted a sixth isn’t huge, as you stated, but it is bigger than you indicated. When you make a move like that you NEVER go backwards or equal in asset value, always more. If you borrow 5 bucks from the bank they don’t have you pay back 4.99.

Or, he should have said, "Hey, Toronto, give us your 5th next year for our 1st pick in the 6th this year?" That would have been a fair trade off.
