My guess is they were hoping it wouldn't get out of hand and didn't want to dignify that crap. I never bought it for a second. It was funny how after the first cup with Phil, they talked about how Phil and Sully had a bad relationship, then after the second cup they said how great it was and now that they lose with Phil having a bad post-season, the relationship is bad again. - Rinosaur
Don't believe anything you hear and only half of what you see.
Took him long enough. He should of done it earlier this month. The rumor circus was getting way out of hand. - Victoro311
He did wait too long to talk about the issue. That being said, I don't think he said anything significant. I would never expect a coach to come out and say.... "yeah, there's some friction between us and I think we'd be better off parting ways". So, I don't really know what to believe, but I don't think it completely puts all the rumors to bed.
FWIW.... Mark Madden said the other day that the Pens explored a trade and didn't feel the offers were worth it. So now they intend to keep him.
Extremely suprosing that he was still around. I guess it had to do with the injury. Plus, I like the D man we picked up a few picks before. Rutherford seems to get some nice picks in the 2nd and 3rd rounds.
I think he'll still be good for 25-30 goals. He's phenomenal for his age. Plus, the smaller ice surface fits his game well. - cranktheradio
Over 6 mil a year for a 35 year old winger who hasn't been playing with the best competition in the world for four years... its a huge gamble on a big price tag. I am glad we steered clear.
It's hard to imagine that both the guys the Pens got Addison and Hallander both fell from what was projected (late-first early second). I'm hoping these two end up being the gems the scouts seem to project them to be.
I kind of wish there were a way to see Hallander sooner rather than later, his size seems to contradict a lot of what's written about him.
I guess there was no deal to make for JR and we will stay the same team for the most part. I am still hoping we unload Sheary and sign Grabner or Nash though.
Yohe has a nice article about JR pursuit of Skinner. Not sure what we’d give up but I’m scared that Rust will be in a deal, really don’t want to lose him

Yeah, I go back and forth on that idea...
-Skinner is a massine upgrade offensively over Rust, so it’s a no-brainer
-But... Pens only get Skinner for one season and he’s likely to price himself out of there next year.
-Pens could have signed Rust for three or four more years.
-Rust brings an element that not many Penguins do.
Read an interesting article about the value of the Pens first two picks against the value of the 22nd overall that we traded to OTT. If you average all the scouts rankings together, the Pens picks have almost identical value to Ottawa's pick. A year and a half of Derrick Brassard at $3M is worth whatever negligible difference in prospects.
I think the Penguins have a really good strategy for a win now team. As long as we keep our 2nd round pick and keep reeling in undrafted talent, college FAs, and euro signings...we can keep enough of a pipeline to get contributions.
As MadMike said, good hands! #91 is awaiting for him in a year or two. We found a good Swedish boy in Hallander. - Barnaby36
Seems like a similar but better version of Bjorkqvist. Pens seem to be targeting guys that excel with going to the net, board play, etc. Probably a wise move as thats exactly the type of supporting talent we need to surround 87 and 71. Just hope they can contribute before the window closes...
This trade front overall has been far quieter than I expected. I don't know how much of that will change, if any, when Tavares makes his decision. Maybe July 1st will be more active around the NHL.
I guess I'm just hoping this all means the Pens aren't making any major moves. My new hope is this...
-Let Rowney and Kuhnhackl walk.
-Sign Kunitz to a 1yr/$1M contract.
-Re-sign key RFAs: Rust, Sheahan and Oleksiak.. and Simon if he'll agree to a two-way.
-Dump Hunwick somehow.
-Sign Mike Green to a 3yr/$3M-per

This line after a rested summer IMO would be fierce. - Rinosaur
I’d honestly rather see Sheary traded and ZAR take the 4th line spot. Not sure how much Sheary is valued now, but throwing him on the 4th line would just make his value go down. And if the team signs green (in assuming 3 years at least) I’d be ok if they traded maatta for whatever they can get.
