No way he drops that far if Bergevin/Dorion weren't picking at 3/4, Red Wings probably didn't even see this coming.
- wilkobecks

Wings were laughing when they made a choice. Says enough they didnt go for a Dman there. Zadina wont be a bust and there is no logic reason he was skipped. Last players that dropped were Barzal, Vilardi, Liljegren and Chychrun and theyre all doing very well now.

4 times a year, hopefully we will match his skill with our character
- wilkobecks

Don't forget that Dahlin is in our division also.

The thing is, I’d be happy with getting Tkachuk in the 8-15 range

The pick is great. No way he would have been there at 8-15. Zadina probably dropped to 6 for a reason. He is already rocking the boat.
Señs did great. I would rather have a solid team culture then a selfish star. Ovechkin learnt that this year

Sens should have moved Duchene for a top pick this year and given Colorado their 1st this year

Just a big undo on that trade

#tanknation and go for Hughes next year

- RoloTahmasee

That would be dumb.

Tkachuk is staying in college and will become a free agent in a few years.
- drummer829

Totally. I mean we saw everyone say the same thing about White. Remind me how that turned out?

I love how fans make poop up to try to justify their perspective...
No Zadina wasn’t passed because he’s selfish or rocking any boats. He was passed due to positional need. That’s it. The Wings are ecstatic he fell to them.

Just like the Canucks are ecstatic Hughes fell to them and Isles are ecstatic that Dobson and Wahlstrom fell to them. All because teams ahead of them reached for Centermen.

The general common rule is you draft the best player possible, not the position you need.

Position may have had something to do with it.

My guess is the interviews, Either the other guys interviewed very well to move them up or Zedina's interviews didn't go so well.

From Ottawa's point of view they specifically said they liked Tkachuk's size and his family knows how to get players NHL ready properly.

Ya I don't think it was a character thing. It's hilarious to me that fans already decide who will have a better career without a single game played in the NHL. They are both great talents Imo

I think it has more to do with the other players doing something impressive to move them up rather then Zadina moving down.

The primary goal of an NHL team is to win enough games to get in the playoffs and go on a long run . Brady T is going to make everyone around him better and will create space for the likes of Brown,Formenton,White,Batherson,Chlapik . He is the kind of player that will thrive in tough games .

Either Zadina or Tkachuk were fine options . Both will be terrific but very different type of players . I like the character that Brady brings to the table !!

Well said. The Sens could use a bit of Jam and compete right now. The culture in the room will dictate more on ice results than another sniper figure skating from blue-line to blue-line

You may be right. Wasnt he projected to go 2 or 3 ? If your needs are different then a potential 30 goal scorer . I guess not many teams in bottom 5 required that this year

I really wanted Zadina, and would still have preferred him even right now.

But Tkachuck was ranked ahead of him in more than one draft ranking, so I guess only time will tell now.

I've heard mixed reports about whether he's going back to play in the college league, anyone know what's going on there?

I really like the fact that he is very big and can skate. Kind of reminds me a bit of a more aggressive Jordan Steal.

I wanted Zadina too, but I am very happy with Tkachuk

Another Defenseman. That's probably for the best, after Chabot the sense prospects for defense fell off pretty sharply.

Poor draft so far in my opinion. Zadina was the guy to pick. Tkachuck could be fine, but he's just another Lazar/White mould. You can't teach natural skill. You can teach hockey IQ and two way play. At this point in time, it really seems like a missed opportunity.

Not sure what the point to trade down to get a guy you may have had with the additional 2nd rounder pick you acquired.

I just feel the Sens didn't max the value of their picks. Then again 3-4 years from now this could all change.

Would have liked to have seen some Karlsson news to either trade him or confirmation that he will likely stay. Concerning if he leaves and we have no 1st next year.

So Tychonick and Bernard-Docker are childhood friends. Bernard-Docker is the safer pick but Tychonick has the higher ceiling... Hockey News draft preview.

Should've drafted Zadina/Veleno, but l'm willing to give Tkachuk and JBD the benefit of the doubt. Hope it doesn't end up being another 1st round blunder by this org's scouting group (Puempel, Lazar, Lee...)

Seems Ottawa is looking for chemistry. As you said, Bernard-Docker and Tychonick know each other well but Tkachuk has played with both Colin White and Logan Brown. I do not recall if it was Brown or someone close to him, but Brown was hit from behind playing juniors and Tkachuk went after the guy on his next shift.

Sounds like the kind of guy the Sens need. A power forward is a invaluable asset

I think the trade down was just to get another pick 46,i dont think they had a 2nd this year??

I have a feeling Tkachuck will be in Belleville for half the year and the SEns starting around christmas....just a guess...not fact.

We probably wont hear anything about Karlsson until after July 1

Tkachuk will either be at Boston University or with Ottawa. I`m expecting him to play the year at BU and sign an entry level contract at the end of the year.

Agree there and why rush him? Give him the year, get things settled then bring him in.

I think Ottawa did well, but then all teams will say that right now. In a few years we will see what the results are. Tkachuk or Zadina or whoever, clearly they all had some talent to go in the first round, now it comes down to development of the players and if they can and do make the jump to the next level.

Easiest way to explain it I think is Zadina is a Hoffman Type player and Tkachuk is more like Jordan Steal, in terms of style of play.

I love the fact that he already knows Formenton, White and Brown
