IDK, but from what Gorton has said.."Plan A" DID pan out, and they are happy with the picks they got and how everything worked out. He kept saying we just tried to draft the best players in line on "our board" . That's all I'm going by - rrentz
But in choosing a goalie in Lindbom in Round Two with their 39th overall pick, who was not ranked as high as the two best ones available & selected elsewhere around (+/-) the start of Round Three, how could you believe a word Gorton stated at least with that pick "being the best PLAYER available at that time on their board"?
Even more questionable among their 10 picks is them not addressing their primary need on wing sufficiently, and using pick #9 overall to chose a RW in Kravtsov who was not projected to be above a pick in the teens. I will let that one go and see how it pans out, given the scouts word of him. But what you can't let go is why they chose only 2 additional wingers, (RW's also), but not until their #132, and then acquired #216 picks, while selecting their goalie and 6 d'men, with 5 of the 6 chosen through pick #101. That's delaying the time to their now apparent rebuild only plan. |

The 3 first round picks weren't the problem. Stacking up on d-men isn't a problem. Nashville has been doing for it 2 decades. |

wings are weak
- jimbro83
If I had to choose one of the 4 to be weak in though it is a toss up between wings and goalies.
If you have a strong D core and centers, you can compete.
I feel like this chart would feel so much better if at 39 we took a Winger rather than a goalie. But Gorton said Lindbom was "first overall [goalie] by a long shot." We shall see.
I am not going to freak out considering I don't think we are done with the tear down portion of this rebuild just yet. Who knows what we get for one of Spooner or Namestnikov.
As for July 1, we really need to follow the Leafs model and essentially buy draft picks. Sign guys to 1 year deals that we can flip at the deadline, especially defensemen as they seem to fetch the most come deadline time. Guys I think fit this bill at Letestu, John Moore, Ian Cole, Nick Holden, Plekanc, Filpula, Brandon Manning. Anyone better than that group I don't see taking a 1 year deal.
I also would really like to see them pull an Avs or Yotes and take on 1 year of bad money for a year to get more picks or prospects. Money can be used as a weapon here.
Like I said, it is unlikely, but we can come out of this summer with an additional wing prospect or two, plus the knowledge of picks or prospects in March with some UFAs to flip at the deadline, and make that list look a lot nicer. |

Kravtsov Miller Lundqvist Thomas would have just been a much better draft. |

He makes fun of me b/c a switched PIMS/PTS . I admit it when I noticed after a few minutes, and he acts likes I'm a dummy...OK if that what makes him feel better about himself...

lol...True, especially in Waterloo. I did find that scoring touch in Sioux City though
Honestly, I just don't see the point on harping on the negative for 365 days a year, and get irked when some act like they have more info at their disposal than the actual professionals who are employed in the NHL. |
