I am told (though not by agent or NYI) that Tavares will meet with five teams during interview period that opens tomorrow. Rangers are not among them.

3rd and 4th line forwards are readily available via trade/UFA. Defensive depth is real tough to build though, no harm in taking a bunch of them.

And 5 of those 10 defensemen won't even be NHL players. Of the remaining 5 probably 3 won't reach their ceiling. It's not like they're totally devoid of talented forward prospects, either.

The premium of good dmen is the highest its ever been. Like Chiefs said, these guys are 2-4 years away from NHL roster. You don't want to cupboard full of good defense? Much, much easier to find talent up front. It generally takes dmen much longer than forwards to break into NHL. Gotta have a gluten of them, so you have a steady stream to replace current dmen when they go bye bye

the 3 picks after we took a goaltender though, Chris Drury must be pissed we didn't draft Jack, I don't think he anything more than a name to Sather in the philosophical aspect of the organization
