Watched the Dubas press conference from last night...

He comes across as thoughtful and well-spoken. Liked the way he addressed the media and handled the questions.

Really impressive to be honest.

strongly disagree with you.
- MaximusAurelius

That's fine. I think you have a different mindset to the Leafs' management

I hope one of the Marlies guys can step up like Dermott did, that would be huge.
- Zezel

Dermott is a solid pick but he's a 4-5 D man..Leafs need a top line guy and at this point they dont have that in system..It's going to have to come via trade..Doesn't have to happen this yr but at some point in the next couple yrs it will have to be done if legit cup contender is the plan...

At this point I still trust Shanny. If he gets guys like Lou and Babs and thinks enough of Dubas to work with them that says a lot.

Solid logic.

If you trust the guy ultimately in charge then the rest should follow suit.

Seems kinda steep for Glendenning
- Aetherial

My thought was we were giving value for moving up to 33 not for Glendening. I didn’t look to much into this. Just speculating trades while having my morning coffee. I suppose we should get more back for Gardiner though.

Agree, although they will need these other guys to step up also. I also hope with experience Rielly can improve further.

Shanny's results in a short time are pretty golden, hard to question the man.

Agreed

It always kind of surprises me the presidents of hockey operations don’t get fired as often as coaches and GMs because ultimately they sort of oversaw those mishires.

Yeah coaches walk the plank lol, tough gig.

That's executive privilege, everyone else gets thrown under the bus first.

1) The post was about how the league has evolved in the regular season, not so much in the playoffs. This is true. You can disagree. I don't care.

2) If you are going to actually put quotes around something I said, don't intentionally leave out the word "SIZE". That was a big part of the discussion.

- Aetherial

This is what I was talking about though. It has evolved and by not admitting it you are left behind. No longer are teams overvaluing size and grit. If you suck at hockey your size is worthless. That is the evolution. Doesn't matter if regular season or playoffs it's still the same.

Forwards Noel Serron and centers Akil Thomas and Ryan Mcleod were all ranked in the top-16 North American Skaters by Central Scouting while defenseman Jared McIsaac was ranked 13th and fellow d-man Bode Wilde came in at No. 17.

From the good sabres blogger....should we be hoping for any of these guys? Also noticed Noone took Addison yet either.
Any other projected 1st rounders I missed? Any other guys we should be hoping for....frenchy where are you to enlighten me lol

Since we’re waiting for round two. Random trade scenario I just thought up while looking at some first round articles this morning.
Detroit wanted a d man but had forwards fall in thier lap. They also have 2. 3rd round picks right now. What about a package where we send something like

Gardiner
Our 2nd round pick
The third we scored yesterday
For
Glendening
2nd round pick (33) which leaves them 36

I thought this up looking for a way to jump up and grab Wilde. We trade players on expiring contracts and throw in a pick to compensate for them take more salary the. We take in the deal. Detroit wanted d. And are not gonna get an impact d at this point. At least not one who can step in right away, so they get Gardiner. And we get the d who’s a project with high upside, and our 4c. This is just an early morning idea. Take it easy on me boys.

trust the Shanny plan or don't ... this is kind of the point.

I don't know if anyone can really attribute Shanahan with a significant error at this point...

let Dubas do his thing... I don't beleive the draft and develop portion will be a problem at all... however the proof for Dubas will be the instance where he makes a first deal of consequence... moving (perhaps) and existing contract/player for a specific need. Hopefully he doesn't turn out to be a guy who's "in love with his picks" and sticks with them forever...
