I think not trading Karlsson was a big mistake for Ottawa

Well, Leafs just need to find a way to shore up their C position long term. Maybe there will be someone available July 1st that could help.

I like Kyle's play there. According to a Pick Value chart I looked at, Dubas received 437 pick value for those two picks while giving up 302. It's not an exact science but after seeing 2nd round picks frittered away on rentals, it's refreshing to see an extra pick.

Also that. I think they should have given up the 4th overall this year and see if the Islanders wanted to trade one of theirs for something.

We saw the graphic during the draft. A 3rd rounder has something like 12% chance of becoming an NHL'er. And I'm sure a much smaller chance of becoming an impact player. Picks are somewhat overrated nowadays.

That being said, Dubas got the guy he wanted anyways at 29 and added an extra asset. And an extra pick is an extra pick, even if it has little value.

Translation: He drafted a guy at 29 he probably would’ve at 25, and added a mid-3rd.

Edit: why bother post anymore when the comment before you will basically say the same thing...

Wonder if Orpik from the Avs isnt a good move?! Stay at home. Slower but hell we ran Polak out there. Give the team a bit of a meaner edge at least. LH shot though but.... Sakic shopping him before buyout so should come real cheap.

Probably not. You'd have less teams in on him whereas a team like the Islanders might have been interested with one of their top picks this draft.

I'd stay away from 5.5 million even for the year. Wait til hes bought out and pay him like 2 million.

True there though we can afford it, especially only for a year

Also true. I'd be worried about cap space for another free agent though like JT. (If they feel they can get him)
