He once told all Leafs fans to learn the CBA. The longest contract that could be handed out was 5 years.

He then went into hiding after the predictive what the (frank) are you talking about Glak ?

- walshyleafsfan

Here I am. Never went into hiding, even found it funny to have Frenchie idolize me for so long. Remember the conversation that took place at 3 in the morning? Yeah that NO WAY IN HELL do the Leafs retain Kessel salary...that was the whole discussion.

Nope or their 3rd, but you don't have to be a contender to win the cup. They turned themselves into contenders after they won, but again special circumstance since they bottomed out to get the super talent they did.

Leafs do not have the talent of either of the Penguin teams (92 or 2006).

- Glak18

You have some pretty ridiculous standards for what a contender is.

So what should the standard be? Good paper roster and make the playoffs then you are a LEGIT contender.

There's a difference between being called a LEGIT contender for the Stanley Cup and being called a CHAMPION.

Remember I never said you have to be a contender to win a cup, I am just going by what would be the logical use of the term "Legit Contender".

Tampa Bay is a legit contender, have they won the cup? Nope, by they have been a high favorite to win for many years now, not after one decent year. Boston is a legit contender, how long has it been since they won a cup? They are a top team year after year, not after one decent season.

- Glak18

So Boston is a legit contenderwith only 1 50 win season in the last 4 years, 2 of which they missed the playoffs.

If the Flyers signed JT would that make them a lEgit contender?

My answer, no.

- Glak18

The leafs have more elite young talent that the flyer's. You can't even compare them. Flyers are mediocre and their best players are older.

I understand now. Teh Bozak is gonna bring his buddy JVR to Montreal so that James can be the new #1 center. Teh Bozak can play on his wing.

Kessel will request a trade to Montreal, thus reuniting the worst defensive line in history.

Why would anyone care what happened a decade ago when talking about current contenders?

You'd only want to look back 4 or 5 years at most considering things like player movement, players regressing or improving, coaching changes, etc.

In a lot of cases where there has been a remarkable change of fortune in just a year or two, you'd be wasting your time even looking that far back. What would be the point, for example, at checking out the Leafs past seasons before Matthews, Marner, and Nylander when evaluating if they are a contender? They've only played 2 years and the team went from last in the league to a playoff team.

Therefore evaluating how the team performed before their arrival in order to decide if they fit your narrow definition of "contender" would be just plain dumb.

The Islanders could potentially be the first NHL team to have both their GM and head coach drop dead in the same NHL season.

For a team that's way above another, they surely don't do well against them, but I clearly don't understand.
