The draft was alive and well all throughout the 70's. They made some great trades with some dumb GM's. They robbed the Seals for their 1971 first round pick to select Guy Lafleur

my bad, only the likes of cornoyer, larry robinson, lemaire, savard, lapointe were not drafted. i refuse to give credit to their management abilities until the effects of the draft balanced the league.

for 6 championships in the 70s their top 3 defense were hall of famers robinson, lapointe, savard. hardly saavy drafting/management

I think a lot of franchises go through highs and lows with management groups, the Canadiens were really well run for the majority of their history, 24 Cups would attest to that.

Not really. Only 6 team league with the Habs and Leafs controling entire junior systems for their own teams. As well no free agents, and unlimited contracts.

First of all a few more prospects have been vocal about the draft and their media comments . Tkachuck Hughes (both American ) and now Zadina (Euro) have made comments on their draft hopes.

There is always desirable destinations and undesirable destinations , like it or not.

If I was a prospect or top UFA I would not want to play for Ottawa Calgary or Columbus . Added to the geographical location maybe Winnipeg and now maybe Vancouver.

I wonder if we are now on the undesirable list. Before you jump all over me stop and think,

Most American and European players want to play in the States or on the East Coast ( Ottawa excluded) for the travel alone.

We are a bottom team .

We have idiot management

We have no big name players to attract other big names.

The winter weather.

The positives are

Plenty of ice time

A beautiful city

Passionate fans

A beautiful city

I think it's okay to be somewhat undesirable right now so long as steps are taken to change that over the next couple years. As Horvat takes the reins and BB/EP become stars, Demko gives some security in net, things will look better soon.
