I think a lot of franchises go through highs and lows with management groups, the Canadiens were really well run for the majority of their history, 24 Cups would attest to that.

During the Habs dominant runs, the league was constantly trying to find way to handicap them. Some rules like the the PP ending after 1 goal was brought in specifically because the Habs PP was too effective.

I can't remember who it was that scored a hat trick in 30 seconds or something like that on the same PP and the league changed the rules a week later.
