I've always found it curious how the most "prestigious" organizations in the league are often the dumbest when they have no reason to be.
Like you could have an unlimited front office in every Canadian city and the big US markets, yet these teams are quite often the most poorly ran or inefficient.
Like, last TDL where Vegas laundered Brassard to Pittsburgh because there had to be another team with cap space to make the deal work. Wow, great work! And then you hear from Elliotte, Bob, Pierre, etc. that the consensus around the league was a "holy crap. i never knew you were allowed to do such a thing." Like, (frank)ing really? And then Wilson goes and does what literally like 24 teams could have done and its treated as if Wilson created a time machine and discovered intergalactic flight at once.
Its most likely ego. Places where they had to get creative forced them to learn and adapt and evolve while the places where they had no restrictions they were like "if i didn't know everything then i wouldn't have been hired. i am the smartest. why do i need someone who understands the salary cap when i can just use the calculator on my phone?" |

Looking at capfriendly Γ nd who we re-sign, I cant see this team being much over the cap floor.
Takes away 1 of our batching topics for next season, when we are at bottom of standings again. |

Debatable really!!! At least Montreal has four second round picks. - LeftCoaster
Which will be to late to help before the core is nothing but anchors.
Real smart.
He'll be able to trade them for draft picks at the 2024 deadline. |

I think a lot of franchises go through highs and lows with management groups, the Canadiens were really well run for the majority of their history, 24 Cups would attest to that. |

You don't usually draft to help your current core, unless the kid is top of his class and can step in right away. Generally you're drafting kids to help you three years down the road. Unless you're in a FULL rebuild like the Canucks where they're gonna draft their entire core in about a seven year window. |

In three years they'll be going into a full rebuild due to the anchor contracts that they have.
They are win now or head into a full rebuild. |

Not sure why this kid isnt getting ranked higher by these draft sites. Kid is a top 10 talent. - Reubenkincade
I've mentioned him in a trade down scenario along with Veleno and Hayton.

Is Kravstov in the KHL? No thanks.... not with our 1st rounder.
Berggren to the list for sure. |

I ranked my final top 10. Not a mock...
1. Dahlin
2. Svechnikov
3. Zadina
4. Hughes
5. Wahlstrom
6. Dobson
7. Kotkaniemi
8. Tkahuck
9. Boqvist
10. Bouchard
I think the defense that Benning is realistically speaking about falling that they like are Hughes and Dobson but I think Hughes will be gone. I think the top two forwards they think they have a realistic shot at is Zadina and Wahlstrom if teams are D hungry ahead of him.
I think it will come down to them having to decide between Dobson or Wahlstrom with teams drafting for their needs ahead and they take Dobby.

Number seven is almost anticlimactic now, I'm interested to see who they take in rounds two and three. |
