I dont think he fits what we need per se, but he is a young LW who can skate and score a lot of goals. I dont doubt Rutherford loves him.
If there was a deal around Sheary and Jarry ...I'd be down.
Someone the other day mentioned Brassard for Paccioretty ... Brassard for Skinner would be similiar I suppose. I personally would hang onto Brassard though. He is golden value at $3M. |

I bet Skinner would do well with Crosby. I wouldn't be against either if Sheary/Jarry were the main piece.
I'd try to keep Brassard too. I think he's valuable for a Cup run this year. |

I dunno.. Maybe.. They'd have to eat salary... There's no doubt in my mind the Habs would love a good French Canadian centre. They won't even hire a coach unless he speaks French. |

I didn't even know Brassard was French-Canadian. I guess it would be something to consider but we'd have to add for sure.
Imo Gallagher would be a better choice out of Montreal though. |

LA had shown interest in Jeff Skinner but priority for now is Kovalchuk. Told that Pittsburgh and St. Louis have also talked to Carolina about Skinner - YouMeAndDupuis9
My bet is they'd want Maatta. |

I don't understand. He's a LW who can skate and score a lot of goals... but he doesn't fit what we need? Pens lost because their offense dried up... adding Skinner on the left side fits exactly what they need.

seems like a solid top-9. I would imagine the trade would be around Sheary, even though I'd try and throw Simon+picks at them... |

I happen to agree with this, although his concussion history scares me. |

The Pens are ok for a couple years in terms of cap space. The problem lies more in all of their stars aging together. Crosby, Malkin, Kessel and Letang, that is good for +$32M of the $80M cap which will be in decline in the coming years.
This is why at least one of Kessel or Letang will get moved this year and the other will probably go next year. You could make the case for moving both this year.
Keep in mind that at this moment, Kessel has the highest trade value he will ever have. Letang might not but he is a RHD who can play a ton of minutes, he still has big value around the league. - MacPatty
Didn't seem too difficult for the Wings to dominate with aging stars in Z, Magic, and Lidstrom. Crosby and Malkin will still be top ten players in league 6-8 years from now. No future planning needed yet. 81, 71, & 58 each have four years left on their deals. They'll each be worth their current cap hits for the next four years, no question.
I do agree on Phil's trade value being at its peak. I think any thoughts they have on moving him are probably in effort to change the makeup of the team. Introduce more size and grit, while not sacrificing team speed. Personally I like the team how it is and think they should use Sheary, Hunwick, and picks to finagle a respectable LW and 5/6D. |

I dunno, he's play 70+ games in his last 5 years. Seems like those are behind him. I'm pretty sure his concussion history happened in one season. Adding a 50-60 point guy on the left side would be a really nice addition. |

I meant that he doesn't fit our need of more size/physicality/forechecking/two way play despite being a LW with wheels. So he checks most boxes but not all. Wouldn't be opposed to Skinner at all but would Sully might have a heart attack with Kessel, Skinner, Guentzel, and Sprong.

I don't believe size, physicality, forechecking, or "2-way play" are a need.
I'd rather have Skinner than Evander Kane (or someone similar). |

Kind of my point though. Lidstrom was a freak and there is no way you can compare Letang to him. The Wings gave up Chuchryn to get rid of Datsyuk's contract and Zetterberg is what's left on one of the worst rosters in the league.
My point is that while yes, Crosby and Malkin will still be really good in 4 years, it won't matter if they keep trading away all of their young assets while waiting on their current assets to decline.
I'm just saying, if Edmonton backs up the truck for Ottawa and misses out on Karlsson, I'd dangle Letang out there for the worst GM in a desperate position to bid on. |

There's no realistic return from Edmonton that makes the Penguins a better team. |
