I actually agree..but you will run into the JT can do no wrong crowd...I hate anything over 9m per... will be the next DP contract towards the end..everyone forgets he missed large parts of a few seasons to injury..what on earth would you pay Barzal if JT gets 11 mil ???
- theguy

I'd love to hear how a contract to JT could ever be "the next DP contract"... NEWSFLASH GUY... every Elite player come their 1st UFA period will get an 8 year deal from their team, unless they change that rule. Also, 9m per? yeah you clearly don't understand how agents come up with money #'s in the salary cap world of the NHL.

And large parts of a few seasons he's missed, eh? Really?? When?? Because outside of the 13/14 season when he tore his MCL in the Olympics. Which other of your so called "few" did he miss "large parts" from or is his 2nd longest time missing 5 games considered a large part of a season in your eyes?

Here's a fun fact for ya... McDavid has actually missed more NHL time due to injury than JT has in their careers

Yep 1min in 1 game makes him the best player in the league...take off the glasses...whats going to happen in a few years when Barzal takes over the 1c spot..you really want to pay a 2c 11m per...
- theguy

No, the only one saying anything like that would be you with your sarcasm... Put your glasses on GUY!!! You must be right, it ain't like JT's been going up against every teams best defenders, with all those allstars he had on his team to help him out and top coaches... yet he still somehow put up top 20#'s most of his years. Guys crap!!! Total 1 min in 1 game wonder

And yeah I wouldn't mind having JT @ 11m per to be a 2c when the day comes that Barzy beats him out as #1 since by the time Barzy's up for his first contract renewal JT would have 6 years left on his. Let alone while I'm sure Barzy will turn out well, thou still gotta love how after just 1 year you make it sound like he's gonna be like McDavid and therefore a talent like JT is no longer needed.

I HOPE we have that problem in a few years. There's far worse problems to have than Barzy and JT as your 1 and 2

News Flash i fully understand ...doesn't mean you pay him a max deal or even close to a max deal...i know your one of those JT is god people...and thats fine he is a good player ...is he a Mcdavid, Crosby, Ovi???? i don't think so....Ovi is getting just under 10m per..i know i know different cap number that year so he got less..still don't think you pay him more then Ovi number will hurt you long run.

Nope not even close.... Just a guy that feels the team would be better with him for the next 8 years than without, and one that understands how the Cap era of hockey works. That along with knowing the league will expand again in the coming years and the likelihood of the cap ceiling continuing to rise I don't see JT's contract really becoming an issue. It's other contracts that this team has that are/will

So because Ovi being in the 11th of his 13 year deal at that price, any player not considered better should be paid less? Even thou the Cap ceiling had risen 29.2 mill since then? and I hope you know that even if JT gets 11m that's still not Ovi money, it's still less in the Cap era comparisons. Now i'll move onto some #'s for you, like how by not counting JT's 1st year in the league (Ovi's last year breaking 100p) Ovi has only outscored him by 26 points... and by 81pts in JT's whole NHL career. Now after those #'s let's look back at the players each of them were playing with during those times. Soooooooo yeah... it's those reasons I fail to see anything you're trying to come up with.

Sorry if I fail to understand why some fans feel like knocking JT down a bit or failing to see the guys talents/level but in no way am I a JT can do no wrong type. Guess this will just forever be a agree to disagree convo until one of us is proven wrong after the next 8 years plays out... and that's clearly only if the guy re-signs

On Tavares...

He is meeting now with as few as 6 teams...(maybe more) but I am hearing that Toronto is a gaining momentum BIG time in this....

- Eklund

Look on the bright side - Toronto plays at the Barclays in February and at Nassau in April - you can still see JT then.

Ek doesn't capitalize words unless the deal is practically done.

If Tavares accepts a one year deal with the Leafs, then money had nothing to do with this. To me, its exremely foolish for him to take a one year deal vs an 8 year (guarenteed money) deal.

Agreed, and not only did money have nothing to do with it, but the Isles never had a chance.

Honestly, if he's really gonna take a 1 year deal I still don't see him landing with the Leafs... now Tampa and if the rumors are true about Nashville, seem more like the logical teams for that kinda move. As they in my eyes would have the best chances of a real Cup run just by adding him, and both happen to be the no to low tax states as well.

Snow has been searching for a top pairing defenceman for years. I'll gladly take my chances with Lou finding one.
- Wario

Well, I'm just saying Lou couldn't find 1 for the Leafs. Shero pîcked the Devils up out of the gutter & signed the Hart winner amongst other players. I may going to wait & see what magic Lou is going to be able to perform.

Garth did manage a few other trades that have you guys moving in the right direction. Just didn't seem to be able or wasn't prépared to make further trades through the season to get the team further. You can thank him for the draft you just had as well.
