You don"t trade that kind of young talent. With Lou in charge and Trotz as coach, I think July 1rst will be much different this year than years past.

Definitely right. Certainly can credit Snow and his scouting staff along with getting Calgary pick but he lacked the gravitas to hire a top experienced coach, make key player decisions and inspire winning up and down the lineup and in the organization.

Given DeHaans injury history, i dont see a reason to lock him up. He's not going to be worth what he gets paid. I'd rather see them spend elsewhere.

De Haan is all but done at this point. If he was healthy he is a important piece to the defense. Its a shame i like him but he is damaged goods. I think you can take Carlson off the market at his point. caps did the salary dump with Grubauer and Orpik coming off the books.

Great pics last night at the draft for Islanders. Wahlstrom sounds like OVI with his one timer. Surprised he didn't go in the top ten

Obviously we’ll learn more today, But there seems to be a growing sentiment that John Tavares will stay with the #Isles

Perhaps. Definitely a risk to sign him to over 3 years. Boychuk is also a liability. I only feel good about Leddy (on second pairing), Pulock and maybe Toews. Aho showed promise coming up but he needs to play better in the dzone. Pelech and Mayfield have no value to me. Maybe as number 6 and 7.

Using them as leverage and to basically do what Stamkos did. Doesn't hurt to hear them out. (Just Isles fans nerves)

That offer along with the franchises new direction and leadership should be enough to get him to re-sign. Plus Lou will be adding a goalie and a Dman/men. If it's truly about "winning", he will re-sign with the Isles.

Lou flew to LA with John's agent, Brisson, and will stay till all meetings are finished. Lou does not fool around when it comes to business. I, for as long as I can remember, finally have faith in the decision makers of this franchise. If John leaves, so be it. He is already, at age 27, a bit slow for the pace of the new NHL. He compensates his weakness with great work ethic, superior vision and slick hands. 4-5 years from now, JT will not be any faster, and all his other attributes that compensate for his skating liability will no longer be enough to keep him in elite company. But he will still be getting paid 11 million per year. Don't get me wrong. I hope he re-signs and we build around him and Barzal for the cup runs. But, if he decides to go elsewhere, is it that much of a bad thing in the long run...?

I'd rather him sign but if he leaves I won't blame him nor do I think after the past 2 months think it'll kill the team.

But come on bruh, 4-5 years from now barring any serious injury who are you kidding? JT will still be JT... he's already doing it in the "new paced" NHL, it's all his other attributes that you listed that'll actually keep him that way. On top of that giving his soon to be wife and her knowledge he's gonna stay in great shape for years to come. The mans a fine tuned machine.

I actually agree..but you will run into the JT can do no wrong crowd...I hate anything over 9m per... will be the next DP contract towards the end..everyone forgets he missed large parts of a few seasons to injury..what on earth would you pay Barzal if JT gets 11 mil ???

Yep 1min in 1 game makes him the best player in the league...take off the glasses...whats going to happen in a few years when Barzal takes over the 1c spot..you really want to pay a 2c 11m per...

I would think they are paying him because he took a minimum pay five year contract instead of a ten yr one that OVI got.

He still has a strong commitment as captain and Trotz is a coach who understands his leadership. Other teams have a lot to offer but he still has a strong attachment to the Islanders and knows Lou along with any GM working for these owners could trade him at a future date like a Ray Bourque if it meant his final shot at a cup. But even though OVI has been in the playoffs since 2010, he also endured a lot of frustration. Every player accepts his career. With Belmont still three seasons away, the move to play half their games in Nassau is a commitment to JT who loves the place.

Like I've stated before, we have not had this kind of management since the glory days of Bill Torrey and Al Arbour. In Lou I trust. With or wirhout JT. We are in position to be very competitive no matter his decision. If he leaves, it frees up money to spend elswhere. If he stays, we are set at the center position for years with him and Barzal. I truely don't see it any other way. I prefer, and by far, having Lou and Trotz and no JT, than Garf and Doug Crapuano with JT. It's time for the Islanders to be run as a true NHL organisation. We as fans, are well over due!

Is that not a reason he would go to a contender now, Not wait it out & hope Lou weaves some magic? Being able to take a team now when he's at his peak would surely be something that would help make his decision.

Just on Lou, another poster says hes going to get a Dman(men) & a goalie. Pretty sure the Leafs needed that same Dman.

Snow has been searching for a top pairing defenceman for years. I'll gladly take my chances with Lou finding one.
