I really have to question whether or not Buffalo is even on Simmonds no trade trade list. I just don't see how an aging power forward fits in there.
- hereticpride

Reasonable. I thought the same thing. He's on such a great 1 year contract. I'm sure he'd demand at least a 7M AAV going forward.

I like Simmonds fit a lot more than the other rumored forward we are talking about which is Patches from MTL.

I can agree with that. The market is really in our favor with him. As soon as JT announces he is resigning with NYI... ROR's stock will go up that much more.

I find it really hard to believe but guys like Dreger, Nichols, etc are saying that MTL's 3OA is on the table for ROR.

I personally don't see Philly being as good of a fit but... thought I'd see.

- JVince11

He has more value staying in Buffalo (assuming he wants to) than he does in a trade. No one is going to trade him what his actual value is due to his contract (he's good, but he's not THAT good), his prior holdout issues, not to mention his drunk driving/fleeing the scene episode when he decided to drive into a Tim Horton's.

He's a very good player, but I don't think the Sabres will get what they expect for him.

Yes, as were Andrew Herr and Dylan Playfair.

Based on the show last night I can only conclude that Canadian television is really bad.

I can't think of one Canadian show I actually watch besides...sports.

I think it's on par with British television, with the only difference being that Canadian television is more about hockey and logging as opposed to British television being more about drinking tea and being proper.

Tuned into that NHL awards "show" last night for a bit. Man, I have seen better production values at a high school show. Not the main reason obviously but no wonder the NHL is still 4 out of the 4 major leagues here in the US. A magician doing a card trick to announce the winner of the Selke?!?!?!? GTFOH!!!!

Did you ever watch The X-Files, the Tom Green Show, or Kids in the Hall? Those are the only 2 I ever watched more than once.

All understandable to hold against him. I personally think that the best path is to keep him this year and allow Casey Mittlestadt to play 3C and wing in some scenarios. I don't think he is ready for full 2C duties yet plus ROR is our defensive guy who is the best faceoff guy in the NHL.

I think that he MIGHT get traded at the deadline or even next summer when his actual salary in his deal goes down to 5M.

I don't know what that is, but if it's Canadian, I'm sure there were numerous references to all of the following:

- tree logging
- hockey
- how great Canada is
- the Tragically Hip
- maple syrup
- moose
- Canada really is great, isn't it?
- pine trees

Don't get me wrong, I think he's a very good player. But on a team that is a contender/looking to contend, he's most likely a 2nd line center. However, the Sabres would likely be looking for one of a top-5 pick or a top-end young player (either a potential top-line winger or top-pair defender) for him, and I don't think they'll get it. The best bet is, like you said, keep him at 2C and let Mitts get acclimated to the NHL.

Well, he is very good passer and can finish, too. Some team will take a late-round chance that he is a late-bloomer in the other aspects of his game. The biggest issue with his skating is that he only started ice skating at about 11 or 12. He is from Tel Aviv, and the only suitable rink in Israel is in Metulla (right along the Israel-Lebanon border). I'd love to see David develop. Many of his issues are simply related to that same late start in ice hockey. He's had to play catch-up.
- bmeltzer

wow that is really late in life to pick it up and play at a high level. the lack of work ethic in your assessment is something to make one pause tho. I guess he is the perfect late round home run shot

It's like American TV. All of our shows have explosions, scantily-clad women, drug dealers, etc. Canada is the same, just more...Canadian.

I know this is the sell job of ROR, but is still objective. Fine you want to use last year stats, ok, but if you want to go last 5 years...Bergeron. I would even put Giroux up there in the conversation like the Hart trophy, but obviously won't win it.

The phrase that should be used..."One of the best face-off guys in the league".

I think Joe Mullen didn't start skating until he was 9 or 10 and just played roller hockey.

Agreed. He is an upper tier 2C on most contending teams. 3 straight 20 goal and 60 pt seasons. Very durable.

I would agree on that want from us too. We've heard everyone from Skinner/Hanifan, to Drouin, to Patches, to Simmonds.

Vancouver offered Tanev, Gaunce, and a pick which we turned down supposedly.

Now we are hearing Anaham likes Risto and wants to give Silferberg/Rackell if we take Perry's terrible contract.

Be a fun night tomorrow.

Simmonds++ for ROR+

This could be exciting for the both of us...

Be curious of what your value is on what you'd be willing to give for ROR. Of course, Sabres thread is above my expectations but curious of yours.

ROR was #1 last year, #3 the year before, and I think #4 the year prior. Law of averages I suppose.

This is also while taking an NHL record amount of faceoffs so it's not just hitting on a smaller sample size.
