I'm just glad the Sixers didn't draft the kid named Anfernee. I can't even. |

Here's a nickels worth....
Holtby:
Stanley Cup Champ
Value rose like morning glory
2 years
6M or so cap hit
He would hit the right time frame for the Flyers, but expensive....discuss. |

Right player but the likely cost to obtain him is prohibitive.

I think I would just start the season with Elliott/Glassgoalie and see how things shake out. I have my eye on Minnesota as a 17-18 playoff team that I could see moving down in the standings. Perhaps you wait to mid season and then try to swing a deal for Dubnyk? If not, there will likely be other deals to be made for a goalie if needed as the deadline approaches, or maybe we all get pleasantly surprised and the current duo holds their own.
I'm not going to overpay on a deal now for a goalie, no need to rush into anything. |

Goalie situation is starting to get a bit scary now. The depth looks really good with Stolarz, Lyons, Hart and Sandstrom at the top of the list, but after this year the Flyers have no experienced goaltender...zero. Which can be a little good with a little bad.
Not sure how I would rank Hart compared to guys like MA Fleury and Price, but those 2 guys struggled for their first couple years in the NHL, which I expect to happen with Hart once he makes it. So that leaves a 3-4 year window for need.
Tricky situation...wait and sign someone or pay some kind of price for someone now or later.

I'm hoping Lyon (no "s") can get into a good amount of games. In fact, I think the Flyers should be looking to move one of Elliott/Neuvirth, otherwise that leaves 2/3 of Lyon/Hart/Stolarz playing less than 1/2 of the AHL games this year.
Make Lyon the backup, let Lyon be your AHL starter and let Stolarz try to regain his form, and evaluate at the TDL. |

I'm not that worried right now for 19-20, it's a long way off and these things have a way of working themselves out.
Here's a couple of things that could happen
Hart could have a monster season at LHV this year and look like he's ready to be an NHL starter. In that case, they could just re-sign Elliott to be the 1B/backup and vet mentor and go with that tandem.
Another possibility is the earlier scenario I proposed in which the Flyers make a deal for Dubnyk (or a similar deal) during the season. Using Dubnyk as an example, he will have 2 years left at 4.5 million per, following the upcoming season. In that scenario, you either work in Hart as Dubnyk's backup in 19-20 or, if you'd rather Hart gets 50+ starts at LHV, you keep Lyon as the backup.
Either way, I'm not that concerned. Worrying about future cap implications makes much more sense to me than worrying about which players will fill which roles 2 seasons from now. The latter has a way of usually working itself out.

That is what makes it scary, with an "s", so many question marks.
Lyon looked like he could become a decent backup, Stollie now needs to bounce back from the injury (who knows how that works out), Hart needs work on his A game and Sandy is getting his Swede on a bit longer (come back from injury as well).
Elliott is exactly what the Flyers needed...until that stupid injury. How does he recover and would he be able to do it for an added year or two. LOTS of questions TBD.
Team doesn't want to jump the gun and toss assets away, but being too cautious could have devastating effects on growth. It's the mighty pickle. |

I agree it's not dooms day, but I am a little concerned more than you. I also have control issues...so. |
