McElhinney is a career journeyman back-up. There's little to no chance he plays like he did last year. There's plenty of veteran, former starter goalies who could be back-ups who could play 25-30 games. Cam Ward comes to mind immediately. And yes, he's better than McElhinney.

no thanks to Tanev, good player but he has Lupul-idis.
I would investigate the Dougie Hamilton availability, he is a right handed shot and is from Southern Ontario. Then i would look at trading Gardiner. |

And as many as 5 or 6 of those teams will regret doing that if they were in fact that stupid.
Ranked 6th by ISS, 7th by McKeen, 4th by Central Scouting (NA skaters), 8th by Future Considerations, 7th by Bob McKenzie, 8th by Jeff Marek...
But sure, I hope he falls that far, he'll just be that much easier to acquire. |

Then be objective for once and realize that if the Leafs had the chance to acquire him at the draft for the cost of Liljegren and 25th overall, that it'd be a good deal for the Leafs.
Or better yet, Gardiner and 25th overall and keep Liljegren which I always said could be an option if they're dealing with a team that wants to improve now rather than later (like Chicago or Edmonton). - Unholy_Goalie

Saw rumour of Simmonds, wonder what that'll cost - burn
Ya I was all over that this morning when the rumour broke, but now I’m on the fence.
He has 1 year left on his contract and is 29. How many more years can he play at that style and level? Maybe 3-5max. But he’ll probably want a big contract after next year and term. It might be to much for the leafs to pay for him now and it might cost them if they have to resign him after next year.
If he had like 3-4 years left on his contract (even if it was a higher aav) I think I would be all over that. |

I wonder if Lamoriello would engage in a trade discussion with Ari for Raanta as starting goalie (Raanta for 12th overall and Sorokin?), and Ari signing Grubauer as their starter. Could work for Arizona.. |

I believe that Lou struck a deal with Dubas and Shanahan when he left Toronto...
sign the goalies - will claim one on waivers from you guys.
Lou may no longer be the GM of the Leafs... but he is Lou. No one says no to Lou

I agree. We already have one aging vet winger. He was free. I'd rather keep the assets for what Simmonds would cost.
Likely a 1st and a good player or prospect.

I don’t want the Leafs to sign Tavares. It’ll become an albatross of a contract considering he’ll only have one working knee after the “accident.” |
