Okay so once you have built up your entire forward corps and you have the top 6 you want THEN you want to start building the D corps? Again, I don't think that works because if you have no scoring threats on the back end having a good top 6 isn't all that useful. You have to concede somewhere if you want to take Tkachuk.

Personally I'd rather retain Granlund who has versatility and usability as a middle 6 forward and draft a Dman to replace Hutton/Pouliot/Gudbranson. That seems like a higher priority to me based on our weakness at that position.

A lot of options with 18 mil in space...

Ya he would be, I think it would be bizarre for him to sign in Van but he would be an awesome pickup. I see many teams offering him contracts though, return to Colorado makes a lot of sense.

I think he'll take a small cut in pay to stay in Winnipeg. As of now they are one of the teams with the best shot at the cup.

Goldy and Leipsic have earned it, I'll give you that. Eriksson plays the other side. Boucher is a AHLer but could probably slot in (were going to be bad anyway), and Dahlen is too until he proves otherwise. Anyway, I'd be fine with trading either/or, especially as you mentioned you end up with Tkachuk and he slots right in. It's not a terrible idea, I just have a hard time believing we sign many UFA's unfortunely

Nobody will until we have forwards that go to the net

Our Dmen had a combined 21 goals. If that number goes up to 30-40 goals our total would be very close to the playoff teams with the lowest GF. So we do need more from the forwards, but I think "flushing out" most of the team is a bit over the top.

One thing I did notice looking at the playoff teams and their GF by defense is something that is somewhat obvious but bears repeating and that is that many of them had the majority of their goals scored by 2 guys. Our 2 top scoring Dmen last year were Edler and MDZ with 6 each.

If you take out Gudbranson or Hutton and slot in 1 highly offensive Dman(10+ goals) and account for Stecher and Pouliot's totals going up we are pretty much there. Thus why Hughes/Bouchard/Boqvist would be such a huge benefit to this team.
