What kinda contract is Paul Stastny looking at? 7+ @4years???
- Brooks_Light

Probably the kind where the team he's on makes the playoffs unfortunately.

Commissioner says expectation of cap is between $79.5 and $80M, although nothing firm yet

27 mil in cap space

Jake 1 mil
Sven 1.5
Stecher 1.2
Granlund 1 mil
Pouliot 1 mil

21 mil in cap space

- VANTEL

Sven and Granlund will be closer to 2. The price for players is going up, not down.

That is why I wouldn't bring Granlund . He needs to play top 6 to be productive .

At least Sven could play top 6

Would Sven be productive in a bottom 6 role? I think not. I'm hoping Granlund sticks for just under 2 like 1.8 or something and sven gets probably over like 2.5. We need NHL calibre players, not pushing kids that aren't ready and ruining them.

I don't think 7 is far off the mark, he's not that old and is a proven playoff gem/defensive center.

I think our D had 16 goals combined?

Granlund 8
Eriksson 10
Dowd 3
Gaunce 4
Jake 10
Boucher 3

38 goals and lets add in another 10 for players that subbed in .

Total 64 goals scored 70 % of your team will not win you many hockey games.

I know you are a puck possession guy but this is horrible. You need to flush most of them out and rebuild

- VANTEL

Our Dmen had a combined 21 goals. If that number goes up to 30-40 goals our total would be very close to the playoff teams with the lowest GF. So we do need more from the forwards, but I think "flushing out" most of the team is a bit over the top.

One thing I did notice looking at the playoff teams and their GF by defense is something that is somewhat obvious but bears repeating and that is that many of them had the majority of their goals scored by 2 guys. Our 2 top scoring Dmen last year were Edler and MDZ with 6 each.

If you take out Gudbranson or Hutton and slot in 1 highly offensive Dman(10+ goals) and account for Stecher and Pouliot's totals going up we are pretty much there. Thus why Hughes/Bouchard/Boqvist would be such a huge benefit to this team.

Granlund's the type of player we need to hang on to right now. Good enough to hold down a roster spot but not such a big role or so highly paid that it becomes a problem if a prospect like Dahlen pushes him out of his spot

So your top 6 LW will be Granlund and Sven at 2 mil each even though Goldobin or LEIPSIC would probably be better than Granlund at half the rate. Dahlen will challenge for a top 6 spot . All the while you could actually go out and sign a top 6 winger seeing you have 22 mil in cap space but no lets bring back Granny

Either way, the solution isn't a quick one. you can't just wash out the roster because people need to want to play for Vancouver, Doesn't set much of a standard for how you'll be treated as a player. Also, were just not going to be good. Two backup goalies, 4 AHL dmen and 6 AHL forwards. Pettersson, Boeser and Bo, maybe Gaudette being a surprise, these are the bright spots of an otherwise difficult season. Hopefully the young kids find some chemistry and players decide playing here might not be so bad.

Yeah sorry I don't buy that. If your goal is finishing 31 st then yes Ganlund is a must keep

No doubt, we have several holes to fill yet, but I think the best first step would be to acquire a high end offensive Dman in this draft if we can. Obviously BPA at our draft position might delay that but I hope when it comes to our choice we are left with one because it would have a big impact on the team as a whole to have a legit scoring threat from the back end.

Retaining him because he has value just seems like the obvious move. He can play bottom 6 as far as I'm concerned, that's your delusions not mine. He plays PK, defends well and was part of a solid shutdown line with Sutter last year. Easy retain IMO.

Why get rid of him only to sign a comparable UFA? Makes no sense. He is young, has showed the potential to score 20 goals, and works well in a defensive bottom 6 role if he gets pushed down by Goldobin or Dahlen or anyone else.

For sure, I'm hoping for that but honestly I think a bunch of teams before us might go D and a great forward slides to us. I'm very much on the Tkachuk or Wahlstrom train as much as I hope we pick D.

His last contract was 28mil over 4yrs and he produced 46,49,40,53pts - which is a little under performing IMO but he'd be a perfect #2C for EP. 7.5X3???

So who plays for the Canucks next year in this world? I'm honestly on board with trading anyone, but it seems like JB has got to figure out a way of continuing to insulate the inexperienced while doing it. We can overpay UFA's to come here, but I don't think were a destination at this point.

Ya he would be, I think it would be bizarre for him to sign in Van but he would be an awesome pickup. I see many teams offering him contracts though, return to Colorado makes a lot of sense.
