No meltdown for me.... we have holes everywhere.... anyone will help honestly.

Sure, but some will help more than others.

You’d rather sign Tavares than Carlson if they both wanted the same contracts.

Can somebody who doesn't like Bouchard explain to me why they don't like him? Is it strictly a skating thing or does he have hockey IQ issues? From what I've read, he makes an excellent first pass, has a good shot from the point, but needs to work on his edges/acceleration.

Guy is a pylon in his own end and just camps on the point in the offensive zone, completely immobile, which won't fly in the Pros.

Honestly think he's got the highest bust factor among the top end Ds of this draft.

Speaking of Bouchard, his D partner Regula is someone I wouldn’t mind in the 3rd round. Doesn’t have exciting upside but he’s a steady, smart dman with good size that can make a good first pass.

This is slowly becoming worst phrase in hockey. Its thrown in to nearly every description of a defenseman these day:

"He's a defensive defenseman with limited offensive skills that can make a good first pass"
"He's a fantastic skater and offensive guy who makes an excellent first pass"
"Good hockey awareness and makes a good first pass"
"Highly skilled, selfish puck-hog, that can make a good first pass"

Like if someone is really good in starting the transition from defense to offence or starting the powerplay breakout, etc. then say that; "first pass" is so vague

What happens off he makes it to 7 and JB takes Boqvist?😘
- thundachunk

No chance that happens. Only one person in this city is stupid enough to make a mistake like that

It’s basically code for saying the dman isn’t completely inept offensively and doesn’t struggle dealing with a forecheck. It’s been proven that dmen are more effective when they make passes out of their zone instead of just chipping it off the boards or blindly dumping the puck out of the zone.

A dman who can consistently beat the forecheck and is solid defensively is very valuable, even if they don’t up big points. Chris Tanev types. Plus those guys can basically play with any D partners, they don’t need “babysitters”

Yeah I get what it means, but its so vague that it bothers me. Especially with how the game is evolving and prioritizing offensive abilities from the back end, I don't feel like its an adequate descriptor anymore. Passing is a skill, if a player is good at it, then say it. If a player is not very good at deciding when/where/how to make a pass, then say that too.

I'm fully aware its nitpicking, but calling it transitional awareness seems more appropriate since there are times/places for dumping the puck out

Why he was even a goaltender coach is beyond me. Especially in Vancouver where his legacy is the Lidstrom goal from centre ice.
