TSN was saying $6M ....lmao. dude was a healthy scratch in the playoffs.

I'd say the Hunwick contract would be about max for me ...especially because he's left handed.

Wut? $6M? I wouldn't be interested in anything above $3M. If that.

Jack Johnson is a left shot so that ain’t happening. They need to make a deal for an NHL ready RHD but not a current NHL player. Someone who’s been seasoned in the AHL. Calgary, Carolina and Boston come to mind and Boston and Carolina won’t want to deal with the Penguins so that leaves Calgary and Rasmus Anderson. If the Pens could get Anderson without having to give up Sprong or Bellerive to get him then that is a win. A d corps of
Dumoulin Letang
Oleksiak Shultz
Maatta Anderson
Ruhwedal
Looks pretty damn good. There is not an FA available that would help the team enough to justify the cap hit. That’s where Rutherford and the gang should be looking for.

Panarin is a Pens killer, so I really hope he goes west. Maybe to the Blues to play with his good mate.

Or take a little pay cut & play with 'the man' Geno!

it's actually not far from fair value...

A number one right shot defenseman and a cost controlled budding star who has potential to be even better than the guy they are trading for? Oh and he only has one year left until he's a UFA and is going to want north of 8mil a year. Sounds like a "fair value" to me...

I'd say the chance of Panarin being moved to the Pens is 0.0%. There is no way CBJ is making any deal that significant with a division rival even if they do a three-way trade.

He was a healthy scratch in the playoffs, but his coach is also Tortorella, so it's probably slightly unfair to judge how he's been used in CBJ.

That being said, I still don't want him. Like you and others have pointed out, he's a lefty and the Pens don't have room for a left. Oleksiak is night and day worse on that right side, so I hope that wouldn't be the plan.

If JJ was a righty I'd definitely be open to it. TIOPS reported that Pens may pursue Green as the Pens 3rd pairing dman upgrade. If the Pens can find a way to dump Huwnick, I'd do $3M a year for Green up to 3 years.

For better or for worse, it seems like the Pens are going to at least start the season with the same defense they ended with. Whether a move is made mid-season is another story, but my gut tells me unless a really great deal comes along they're gonna stay as-is.

I really don't want the Pens to make any significant moves up front because they don't have to. A little tweaking is all that is necessary.

EDIT:
Let me rephrase...

I think the Pens first priority it change things up offensively and after that, whatever they're left with will dictate if they can try to change things up with the defense.

I'd have to think if the Pens are signing Johnson, they are trading Maata or Dumo. Maybe they trade Maata to Buffalo for Risto and sign Johnson?

I don't know but it seems strange that the Pens would go for Johnson unless they were signing him on a 1 year discount deal.

Most likely a discount. Jacko is friend's with Sid and might want to give it a try with Pittsburgh.

For the Green idea I like it if it's cheap enough for a 3rd Pairing but I find it very unlikely.

I think Maatta is a better player than Risto but Risto would be a better fit with the Pens. We need a player like Risto to compliment our D pairs, imo.

I think Green will get paid in FA. I mean if Karl Alzner can get $4.5M....dont expect Green to go for any less than that.

When I look at defense I don't just look at the 6 defensemen I look at the whole team. Team defence.

The forwards were gassed and their back checking was garbage in the final games of these playoffs. This resulted in poor overall Penguins defence.

Honestly I don't think much change is needed for the roster. They just need some rest.
