Really cant fathom how people are shocked at the fact PD’s hands were tied. Hoffman was a cancer. There was no “he’s the best player” etc. It was get him out of town. Period. Everyone knew he had to go. PD had no standing in trading him.

Ottawa needs prospects so can see the argument on taking picks BUT Tallon also said that offer was NOT on the table with PD. That deal was not there to make.

Is the trade underwhelming yes.

That said what now is the focus is what Ottawa builds on with the cap space and other moves. Does EK now sign and stay? How big a factor will be Melnyk on EK talks and UFA talks?

And IF EK goes CAN PD hit the homerun trade?! This one could be the biggest of them.

The problem with your offer is that there is no decent player involved. #8 may be that but we downgrade from #4. Forsling may be a good Dman someday but also may be a fringe 4/5 Dman.

To be honest I don't see the Hawks as an ideal trade partner. We can get Hossa/Forsling/Jokiharju/#8 and #29 1st but I think we have more bargaining power, especially now the chance has risen that karlsson will sign here.

The only thing I would worry about is say the interest shifting. Vegas was after EK bigtime but the hangup was on their top prospect being involved. Shea Theodore picks and prospects isnt bad at all, BUT if PD holds out for their top prospect Vegas could shift to trying to get Doughty and Vegas is close enough to LA Doughty might be far more inclined to going there. If that happens then the potential trade market could start to turn.
