I know Enzos like a vulture here but what would you think about a Karlsson trade that got back the picks he stated plus Forsling and Seabrook (minus the 4th oa) ?Could then send this years 4th oa back to Colorado and run for broke in the Jack Hughes race , have 2 in the first round this year from Chicago and 2 next (Ottawa * Chicago). Eating Seabrooks contract would be nasty but there is a several years that cap space will not be an issue .Best player usually wins the trade( of course _but perhaps the rebuild can be sped up ? Cant see Chicago objecting to this as they dump Seabrook and get one last run in 2019 ? Any news on a possible new owner and relocation of the arena to a better location or is it still just same old-same-old ?

As for the trade, I feel like the Sens may have gotten a better return if PD had more time to make the deal, but overall it was a move that was necessary. I don’t agree with all of PD’s moves, but in this case the whole league knew Hoffman needed to be traded, and that the trade needed to happen ASAP. These two factors meant that Ottawa was going to get pummeled in the trade, no matter who they made the deal with. When Hoffman landed in SJ there wasn’t the same pressure to trade him, and this allowed them to get the assets they received for him. Even if the Sens could have gotten the same return as SJ did, there is a fairly high chance that none of the draft picks they received develops into a player that has any impact on their franchise.

The Sens should be in a better position to negotiate with Karlsson now that Hoffman is gone, and it should put them in a more favourable position to negotiate a trade if that happens.

Leafs, FLA, TB, Buffalo will all be better next season. Boston should be around the same or better depending on what they do.
