If I were him.... I'd wait until JT resigns with NYI.

Have some little conversations and bait people into it but as soon as JT resigns... these desperate teams that were eliminated early will come calling with bigger offers for ROR.

I am not even in the boat of needing to trade ROR but if the deal is right.. I will understand it.

I think next summer when Casey has had a full season in the NHL to be the 2C would be the more ideal time to trade him. Maybe even at the deadline if we aren't playing great or Casey is proving his worth.

That pick could become something not too shabby...

Right now they have:
Thornton and Ward as UFAs.
Hertl, Tierney, & DeMelo as RFAs.

After 2018 season:
Couture, Pavelski, Donskoi, Sorensen are all UFAs.
Meier, Ryan and 4 others are RFAs.

Then Dillon and Braun are both UFAs or looking for new deals as well.

There entire roster could turn over. Could see a year without making the playoffs while they adjust.

It's great that the decision making is out of SJ's hands. If they make the playoffs and we automatically get the 2020 pick, then I feel we might see this teams age kick in and cause them to crash and burn in 2020. That pick could end up being top 5.

That'd be the only way I'd start to listen but I'm personally not a big fan of Drouin. He had a big cry baby attitude about being in the minors with TBL. I don't think he'd be a good locker room mesh personally.

EDIT: I just googled it too and saw Ottawa did defer it to 2019. From what I've found it does appear to be 100% unprotected in 2019.

Its Bergevin, I wouldnt put it past him.

i'd defer...the best odds that Colorado would have of landing first overall with Ottawa's pick would be 18%...

those aren't very good odds...or so I was told during the lottery this year
