Myth, your myth. It does happen. Maybe not specifically to get to the floor, but teams with space routinely take on bad deals. And in one case Florida a few years ago took on all the bad contracts they could find. And IIRC that was the same year they made the playoffs.

He wants to go to AZ because of Tocchet but the Coyotes are looking to hit the floor of the salary cap. Matt Moulson has a $5 million cap hit with only $3 mill in salary. I wonder if they could pull something off

We don't know next year's floor yet, though. Last year the floor was $55.4 million. AZ's current cap hit is $56,958,609. If the cap goes up from $75 million to $78-82 million (Daley projected it being around $80 million last month), then AZ might be under the new floor.

It could be that AZ can get to whatever the new floor is by just filling out its roster for next year, but I don't know enough about AZ's roster situation at this point to know if that's the case.

Those are paper transactions as Phoenix absorbed the cap hit and didn't pay him a dime. When we talk about a team taking a "bad contract" we are talking about the Matt Moulsons of the world (guys that have a cap hit AND need to be paid).
