meh.... Ottawa couldn't do anything right in this situation. Glad at least it didn't drag on all summer.
Boedker and Bergman - welcome to the dumpster fire and may god have mercy on your souls

Lol, this article is hilarious...

http://ottawasun.com/spor...d-return-for-mike-hoffman

Stooge Garrioch opining about expected return for Hoffman: 1st Round Pick and a High end prospect... umm maybe not... Boedker and former 2nd rounder...

Ludicrous over-valuing by Garrioch? Or (yet another) underwhelming move by Dorion? I'll go with a bit of both... and the surprise of the century? Ottawa saves money on the deal. Classic Sens. Cutting cost is a staple in every deal, save Alex Burrows.

Let's take a look a some of those theoretical Sens line combos and unfounded optimism about ability to compete

- grim

Lesser players have been had for a 1st(Pens fans know all too well lol). Clearly it didn't work out that way this time around, but I don't think a 1st for Hoffman was that far-fetched. A 1st and high-end prospect? That sounds a bit much depending on the prospect.

Evander Kane at 7MM is a problem.

Burns is about to be over the hill (That contract will be a boat anchor.)
Same for Vlasic.

Pavelski needs a new deal at 34 you gona pay him 6MM+ for several years?

- ImThatGuy

8.75% of the cap for kane isn't a big deal. Would you rather pay him that or say... Lucic?

Pavelski is probably worth 6.5-ish percent of the cap for the next 3-4 years. And in order to keep him you need to offer it sooner rather than later. If they look for a replacement in FA they pay someone closer to Kane's 8.75%. Teams are looking at percentages now not so much the dollar amount. How much did Toronto just pay Marleau for the next 4 years or whatever it is? Pavelski is easily worth that.

Isn't Phaneufs contract pretty much buyout proof? I thought that was the Dave Noni's signature.
- leafsfann

I don’t think so. It’s been said that he could be bought out next year by John hoven so I’m not worried about phanuef and his crap contract.

That Kane deal...

Kane proved in the playoffs with his stupid suspension how he can cost that team. I'm not saying SJ would have won that series regardless, but when you lose a guy who's been one of your major goal-scorers it hurts.

I'm curious to see how the Kane deal affects the UFA market.

Weren't there rumors that the Kings wanted to move Doughty for whatever reason? I could be way off base, but I feel like I heard/read something that either because of wanting a fresh start or salary reasons they were considering a major trade.
- Rinosaur

Supposedly shopped him to get his value near the deadline of I remember correctly.

I guess Ottawa retained salary.. does that factor in. If LA buys him out, do the Sens retain that percentage of the buyout?

My bad, just looked at the date and assumed it was from a day or 2 before the news spread. Didn't realize it's been a week already.

Sens would have been better off trading Karlsson then basically just giving Hoffman away.

Decent return considering the fiasco.

Having watched Hoffman over his career with the Sens, he always struck me as a real strange guy. He very rarely smiles (even when he scores), always appears annoyed with interviews, and you never really saw him interact with teammates on the bench or on the ice. Not just last season, but every season. Gave out a bad vibe.

No idea, but that has nothing to do with the stupid play he made to get suspended.
