Not really. Could work out but very risky. They’re betting big on the on ice performance being more important than off ice issues. Could go either way at this point. - Iggysbff
Yeah... I'm not sure what to make of this "cyberbullying" stuff. If it was Hoffman's wife, I'd think it's more controllable than if it was Hoffman himself, but yeah, who knows... |

Buffalo has SJS 2019 or 2020 1st round pick which could be gold if this all falls apart. - ImThatGuy
Yeah, but unless more teams in the West start making better moves, that Pacific division will allow more mediocre teams in, so I wouldn't get your hopes up just yet lol |

They have 7 players signed after next season.
The entire core group is 30+
Vlassic and burns are soon to be some of the worst contracts in the NHL.
This upcoming season is San Jose's last shot. - ImThatGuy
Couture - 28
Hertl - 24
Jones - 28
Kane - 26
Burns - 32
Pavelski- 33
Vlasic- 30
Looks to me like the majority of their core is 30 or under.

Burns is 33, not 32 and Pavelski is 33. Those are their two major players and when they start a major decline, their supporting cast will suffer. Hopefully for Sharks fans those guys will keep it going strong for another two or three years. |

I think Hoffman would be up to that "challenge"

I'm not sure it'll be a bomb, so much that they just fall out of the playoff picture and land in purgatory where you're just good enough to not draft high. There's been a noticeable regression every year since the cup final.
Whose ahead of them in the Pacific the next few years is the better question?
Vegas? Is there more than a one year wonder there?
Edmonton? They're probably the biggest wild card. Could win the conference or finish in the basement.
Calgary? Goaltending is the issue there.
Anaheim and LA are in the same boat as the sharks imo.
Jimmy Tan Tan said the Coyotes are poised to be near the best this year? Lol |

Yeah, I said something similar earlier. That Pacific division is a division of "should be's" right now and probably the most mediocre division in the NHL. That being said, the off-season has just begun and most of those teams are just a few solid trades away from changing things.
As of right now though? The Sharks should finish 1st or 2nd in the Pacific.
EDIT: I think Anaheim's time is over for a while. Time for a rebuild IMO. |

Hockey-reference.com... said 32 until I clicked his personal link. Either way...what about hertl, couture, kane, vlasic all 30 or under? They got some time and I'm sure some guys in the system. |

Look at the games played vs point totals.....not just the point totals. The guy plays at about a 50 at pace almost every year.
Didn't say he was great, said he was decent.....and he is - sensarmy_11
Yeah, he is barely OK and his stock isn't exactly on the rise. From a hockey standpoint the Sens lose the trade in a bigly way.
Not much more they could have done though. The market had to be pretty limited, so just take your medicine and move on.

Evander Kane at 7MM is a problem.
Burns is about to be over the hill (That contract will be a boat anchor.)
Same for Vlasic.
Pavelski needs a new deal at 34 you gona pay him 6MM+ for several years? |

I'm not saying they don't have some really good players, but those guys are all supporting cast, not the leads. They'll probably still be a bubble team in a few years, but while Burns and Pavelski are only two guys, they are players in which this team is built around.
Once they start decline it's going to be profound. |

I dont plan on it, but if Kane and Hoffman(Hoffmans GF) implode it could be woders for Buffalo.
I think SJ gives Buffalo the pick this year, which will be in the 20's |

You'd spend more time in airport security than in the air. There's that. I can't see either Anaheim or LA making the cap situation work for EKs next contact, though. The king's have Phaneuf though. - leafsfann
Phanuef will most likely be a buyout candidate next year and Doughty will resign.
No need for Karlsson |

That Kane deal...
Kane proved in the playoffs with his stupid suspension how he can cost that team. I'm not saying SJ would have won that series regardless, but when you lose a guy who's been one of your major goal-scorers it hurts.
I'm curious to see how the Kane deal affects the UFA market. |

Isn't Phaneufs contract pretty much buyout proof? I thought that was the Dave Noni's signature. |

Lol, this article is hilarious...
http://ottawasun.com/spor...d-return-for-mike-hoffman
Stooge Garrioch opining about expected return for Hoffman: 1st Round Pick and a High end prospect... umm maybe not... Boedker and former 2nd rounder...
Ludicrous over-valuing by Garrioch? Or (yet another) underwhelming move by Dorion? I'll go with a bit of both... and the surprise of the century? Ottawa saves money on the deal. Classic Sens. Cutting cost is a staple in every deal, save Alex Burrows.
Let's take a look a some of those theoretical Sens line combos and unfounded optimism about ability to compete |

Weren't there rumors that the Kings wanted to move Doughty for whatever reason? I could be way off base, but I feel like I heard/read something that either because of wanting a fresh start or salary reasons they were considering a major trade. |
