Oh boy, a part of the reason why we lose a guy like Simmonds is because of a guy like Andrew McDonald. We're not even going to replace Wayne Simmonds if we move him.
- SuperSchennBros

Next year, we have Lehtera, Elliott, Neuvirth, Weal, and Raffl coming off the books, and the ELCs for Provorov and Konecny ending. Taking Simmonds' contract into account, that gives you over $19M coming off the books. Assuming Provorov gets 8x$8M, Konecny gets $5M, that leaves you with $6M. And remember, this isn't total cap space, it's space created by expiring contracts. They'll hopefully have at least one of Hart/Lyon/Stolarz up cheap along with a cheap-ish veteran backup.

The next year, AMac's deal ends, Gudas' deal ends, and Weise's deal ends.

Andrew MacDonald's contract will not prevent them from resigning Wayne Simmonds.

in that order?

Probably want to do the Weber trade first, as I think he has a skill set that can help with one of the other tasks on the list...and it ain't making wings.

Really? So why not resign Simmonds without the thought of the other young players you have to give deals to? Provorov, Patrick, go down the list.
- SuperSchennBros

Put it in perspective, Flyers have roughly 17M in cap space this offseason (could be more if cap goes up). The players they have to re-sign are cheap RFAs.

Do the Flyers have to deal with some contracts next year, yup, but they also have money coming off then as well.

If the Flyers think Simmonds can help them win now and the future then he will be re-signed, otherwise you have your answer.

How high up does 14 & 19 get them?
- Pat MaGroin

Just from my reading various articles, i think to get in top 10 a team would need to give up top prospect(s) and/or decent NHL player plus one of the picks. Maybe Edm at 10 gets tricked into taking 2 picks for one...

This was just another case of Canada sending us their garbage. Not unlike how Canada unleashed Justin Bieber on the world, btw.

Looks like Bobby Ryan is part of any Karlson deal. High cap hit. I'd watch Trouba, Faulk, or Dougie Hamilton news for info on Simmer possible trade.

We can sleep well knowing that Craig Button is not the Flyers GM.

Craig Button always speaks highly of Flyers drafting, but I haven't seen him have a good read on their draft tendencies going into drafts. Regarding last year, I think that's more a read on the Devils leaning towards Hischier than what the Flyers were going to do.

At least this probably gave Hextall and Pryor a good laugh.

I put no weight on any of these “experts” mock drafts when it comes to the Flyers selection. The Flyers under Hextall don’t leak. In fact “leak” is so hated by Hextall that scouts risked being fired for simply referring to peeing as a taking a leak.

FWIW, I think there is no chance the Flyers take Noel with either pick and a very slim to chance that they take Wilde at 19.

My best guess is at 14 it’s someone like Farabee, Hayton or perhaps Ty Smith if he drops. At 19, my money is on someone like Lundestrom, Berggren, Sandin, Kaut or perhaps Samuelsson.

Ahhhh fresh air! Hey fam, I finally did my whole top 62 rankings and "guide," if anyone was interested -- and why wouldn't you gents be? You spend all day talking about it.

For real, I spent all season watching hundreds of hours of prospects doing it as a project, so I'd really appreciate it. I think you'd actually find it a good read and informative or at least a unique take. It's definitely my unique take, no one else's, all combined into something easy to read. Feel free to share it with any interested peeps! You may have to create a quick account though. It's worth it; you have my word.

I'll probably re-post this throughout the week for stragglers. Back to the Coffin!

I don't think most people ever disliked him. I think they disliked his contract (cap hit and length) relative to his on ice play. He seems like a nice guy and as a 3rd pair defender, he's fine. But I'd rather the Flyers didn't offer him that insane contract.
- jmatchett383

The context of the question is obviously how he is liked as a player. None of us know him personally. What we've seen is a gradual adjustment to the opinions of him as a player to a certain extent as many have finally been forced to admit to themselves that he is a better player than he has been given credit for over the years. The contract while an over payment was never the albatross that it was made out to be.

Button's draft is my nightmare scenario. With that said, I will take you as GM with your preferences at 14/19 over Button. BiggE for GM!
