That part makes me weary. The idea of Hunwick playing for the Pens again is unnerving.

Here's a couple things he says about the D.

• Rutherford loves Oleksiak and believes he has a chance to become a legitimate top-four defenseman.

• He likes the depth, too: “(Chad) Ruhwedel is a good player. (Matt) Hunwick will be more comfortable next season. It doesn’t mean I won’t do something to the blue line. But I certainly don’t have to.”

People, Lucic? Seriously? Cmon, he's got another 5 years getting paid a billion dollars.

If you figure yes great, we'll use his productive years then (frank) him off, not sure that's going to happen. The cap is increasing but holy moly that cap hit is still a bludger.

Heck I'd take on Lucic with $1.5M retained and Edmonton taking Sheary and Hunwick. Deal for me. He'd thrive with Malkin. I can envision that.

Yes for B.Pouliot.

Not sure he'd keep up would he? I know the Oilers guys were saying he's ok but at times can't keep up. Not sure if that's with McD though???

Remember 5 more years - 5. He's probably playing bottom 6 in 2.

He isn't fast, but he could add the element of net front presence to the 2nd line. He is good for garbage goals and shielding goalies. He also is good for dishing out hits similar to Reaves, but he is almost impossible to move. My friend is an Oilers fan and told me he is slow as ever, but he does score goals in front of the net and when he does park himself in front of the net he is impossible to move. He wouldn't be the fastest to join the rush, but he could shield the goalie and allow Kessel and Malkin to shoot the puck from further out without the goalie seeing it as well. He also scored 50 points a year ago and 12 power play goals. Overall I believe he is someone who may not put up the points, but could help teammates put up points.

That would be fine if the Pens could get him for 3 mil over 2 or 3 years but that's not the case. He can't keep up and is signed for 5 more years at 6 mil per. If they bring him in they will be sorry they did this season not it 2 years.

Wow, what could Dorien have got for Hoffman at the deadline? A month ago even?

Scraped the barrel there, but I suppose it had to Be done. Now Karlsson can be extended.

I'm still not 100% sold on him staying. This has been going on for months now and they were in no hurry to trade Hoffman. For their sake I hope he stays.

I think he will be as long as the Sens are prepared to spend the money.

I think Karlsson will move on. With Ottawa ownership issues and them going into rebuild mode, he'll probably want to get out.

I thought I read somewhere that the NHL had to step in and make the last couple of payroll payments at the end of the season. Not sure if that's true.

Malone played perfectly fine with Malkin. Lucic would be something similar to him.

He already requested a trade from Ottawa too. Stupid management. Keep a guy like Hoffman until now just to get back Boedker and a prospect (unknown). He might be something decent but never heard of him.

Btw Miro Heiskanen might be joining the Stars this year and Julius Honka might be available. I'd take a shot at bringing him just like we did with Oleksiak.

You'd have to think that crazy Hoffman situation wasn't known by their management at the time....right? I mean, that would be pure malpractice if they knew that stuff about his girlfriend and didn't fast-track him out of town sooner.

Lucic couldn’t stay on a line with McD.

Malone was also younger than Lucic was at the time he played with Malkin and could keep up.

Lucic is breaking down already. Given his style of play it’s not surprising.

We have done very well rehabbing Dallas defenseman. Sure, I'd take a gamble on Honka being better than Ruhwedel. Some red flags though .... whats the price?

$3M is an overpayment at this point IMO, but yeah, 5 years of him at any price is way too long.

I really have no clue how Dallas has been deploying Honka. He has yet to play a full season and average 13 min a game last season. My guess is he's played a bit of PK, so that means less ES.

I've read up on him and from what I gather, he seems to be in the mold of Daley.

He sure has a cool name lol
I think he's pretty good. For a #5-6 d-man he'd be what we are looking for.

Btw I don't undervalue Lucic as much as you just his cap hit. I could live with $4M for him if they took Hunwick and Sheary from us.

Dude... FIVE YEARS. Are you kidding me? He's already started his decline and you want a $4M hit for FIVE YEARS?

I'm soooo trying not to be a Richard right now lol

You probably know the answer by now lol Melnyk..

I'd like to see Rutherford doing something crazy like trading Letang + for Karlsson (re-signed for equal or less than Geno money - VERY unlikely) just for a change of scenery.

And all of a sudden the Sharks seem to be a bit revatilized.
