As Tumbleweed just mentioned, you think Andersen was acquired and then the contract was worked out or the contract was already negotiated and then the trade was made and officially signed after the deal was done?

I never claimed it was a common occurrence but if the Senators are negotiating a deal with another team, Karlsson signing a long extension makes that trade happen a lot faster and if Karlsson truly wants to get out as quick as possible, signing that contract could get it done quicker rather than suffering through 70% of another season and getting moved at the deadline.

- Unholy_Goalie

The Leafs were given permission to talk to him before the trade was finalized, which is not uncommon. A team signing its own player and then trading is virtually unheard of.

Parking lots are pretty public spaces.

Once it got out, they weren't as quiet as they could have been about it.

Nobody said he thought about trade implications before the denouncing. Doesn't mean it didn't cross his mind afterward either though.

You did.

You've missed the point of Tumbles' post.

He won't ever put a pen to a paper with a Senators logo on it.

A trade and sign? Sure.

A sign and trade? No franking way.

- Atomic Wedgie

It really is the same thing. And the original point still stands that if the money is big enough, the contract gets signed and he gets traded faster.

Or he plays 70% of another season in Ottawa potentially hurting his value in the process.

That plus enough canadian tire money to buy casa loma.
- winsix

I've heard from the smartest Hockeybuzzer that it would be better to just rent Casa Loma.

Although in this case, Tanner's probably right. The thing is a money pit.

Yes it does because if the Senators don't get what they think is good value, he has to play more games in Ottawa. If he agrees to sign a deal, he can get moved faster than if he sits on just the 1 year left on his deal.
- Unholy_Goalie

If he's demanded a trade then he has to go - period. They don't want to risk extending the poop show by having him refuse to show up to camp because he knew they had decent offers but declined them.

He's gone, there's too much bad blood for him to stay.

Dubas should be calling/texting Dorion every hour; Even at 3 am, with a simple "U up" message..

You really think he refuses to show up to camp if they don't trade him?

If he wants to leave Ottawa ASAP, agreeing to sign an extension makes that happen quicker because the teams trying to acquire him aren't going to give Ottawa full value and Ottawa won't want to move him.

(frank) man, you don't stop.

There's no way in hell Karlsson agrees to an extension because he knows he can be traded in a heartbeat. There is literally zero reason for Karlsson to help *in any way* and he won't.

Dubas should send Dorion an offer of Brown, the 25th pick and Gardiner for Karlsson, and then once he says no. Offer him the 25th pick, Gardiner and Brown instead.

Better to lead with a draft pick first.. I doubt he rejects Dubas' offers.

He can be traded in a heartbeat and yet he hasn't been yet.

Again, if he agrees to an extension, it gets him moved quicker so he'd be helping himself too.

It's past Dubas' bed time, and he doesn't want to get grounded.

His mom warned him that if he misbehaves just one more time, they aren't going to Wonderland.

What's to prevent Ottawa from just having him sign the contract and then keeping him?

Dorion: I thought I already did;

Karlsson: No, that was Hoffman.

Dorion: FFS, how many players are on this team?

It's not even July 1st yet, and he does nothing to help his case by signing an extension. Zero. Zilch.

Just checked in here a little while ago and saw the recent Hoffman situation.

YOU CAN'T EVEN MAKE THIS poop UP! Just too awesome! The icing on the cake is SJ flipping him to Florida for more than they gave up for him! They get a cap dump and a bunch of picks for what? A lousy prospect and a 6th?
