Thanks for the news.

Wonder if he actually stepped away or if it was a classy way of firing a guy after he won you the cup.

According to reports, his contract automatically extended on the SCF win but the sides were unable to agree on compensation.

Imo if you’re trading for ROR, I’m involving Simmonds in anyway possible instead of Jake. If Buffalo is trying to compete and they need leadership players, Simmonds could be very appealing. But Simmonds obviously would need to be extended in any deal with Buffalo. I really don’t know ROR’s true value given all the ridiculous offers / asks over the last couple of weeks. Would Simmonds + #19 or our 2nd for ROR with some retention be overpaying or underpaying?
- arichardson22

I don't think Simmonds works in this deal. Also moving Voracek allows the Flyers some cap savings. Plus Voracek is a winger I can see helping Eichel or possibly Reinhart because of his ability to carry the puck and be a play maker.

I really think its the contract that hurts ROR's value.

Buffalo would be morons to not consider salary retention to get the most for him. Imagine if he was paid 5 million/season.

- flyer_nutter

How many consistent 60 point 2 way centers are paid 5 million?

Trotz quits the capitals.

Good for him, it’s not like he’ll have a hard time finding another NHL coaching job if he wants one.

It absolutely does. If he was 5M per season he’d be one of the hottest trade targets all summer after those comments of losing love for hockey this season. He pretty much is a consistent 60 point player on a terrible team. It does make you think how he’d play with a team with depth and more complete of a roster.

I'd be calling Chia offering ROR at 5 mill/season for Drai straight up.

You know he'd accept.

Simmonds could also help as a winger for those players and he’d come cheaper contract wise. I think either could work in a deal but ultimately neither happen. But I trade Simmonds over Jake any day of the week, even if you save 1-2 Million. Jake is an elite RW whereas Simmonds is , imo ofcourse. Or Jake is A level elite and Simmonds is B lol idk.

Simmonds is the guy I’d want to move for ROR.

My offer would be Simmonds, and the 19th and 50th picks, for ROR and pick #32. No money would be retained. With Simmonds gone, Lehtera and Raffl off the books in 2019 and AMac, Weise and Gudas gone after 2020, I’m not worried about the cap hit. Especially if most of these roster spots and one of the goalie spots will be filled with kids on ELCs

Buffalo don't want Simmonds. He's an extra piece for a contender, and they are the worst team in the league.

I'm not super worried about the cap hit either if it ever came down to it.

I dont mind overpaying for some players. Its guys like Mac and Weise where you make your cap savings. Overpaying for mediocrity is the killer.

Agreed. And the cap doesn’t worry me either. I mean hell, think if we resign Simmonds. What’s the difference between his new contract and RORs; 1 - 1.5M? That’s nothing especially when considering the cap rising. Centers are more important and ROR is one hell of a center (he also tends to kill us).

Edit: forgot to say I like that trade especially with #32 coming back.

your smarter than that, you really think buffalo makes that trade? they dont have to trade him. that trade does nothing to really help them; especially when simmonds walks.

I’m doubtful that Buffalo would make that deal, but you never know. They are thin on the wing and if there is a kid still on the board at 19 that they really like, they might do it. A lot would depend on how much value the GM places on the intangibles that Simmonds brings to the table and his wanting to change the overall culture of a losing team. Plus Simmer would be a pretty good winger to pair with a kid like Mittelstadt.

I would think, especially with ROR, off the books, that the deal would be contingent on Simmonds agreeing to an extension. Pegula has deep pockets and desperately wants to win. I could see Buffalo putting a 5 year extension and 35 million on the table for Simmonds. The deal would probably be front loaded as much as possible to allow them to deal Simmonds before the end of the contract as well.
