If he was hired he'd be at a presser soon and in dallas

It's a strange move for sure by Trotz. Figure he would be hanging around NY and not going to Seattle now?

This sounds much better. As Isles fans we know this is not going to be easy.

I never said he was hired

He spoke, at some point this year, about considering taking a year off. It's entirely possible that he's not interested in coaching the Islanders and takes a year to spend some time with his family and do what he wants. Can't rule that out as a possibility. He may have met with the Isles today, politely declined, and went on vacation for all we know.

If Trotz does turn down the Isles, wonder if it would be about not having more say in personnel matters and not about money?

Hard to say. Having accomplished his goal of winning a Cup with an existing team, I could see a situation where he might like to be in on a new team from the ground floor and help shape it. I imagine that could appeal to some people.

Well poop in my mouth, I forgot about that.

I feel shame.

2 minutes in the penalty box for Wedgie.

Good point.

I don't know how many vacancies there are right now, but if he doesn't like the current offerings, there's really no harm in taking the year off, maybe become a talking head for TSN or NBCSports and have a year without stress.

I would say its not a great sign that he's already over there, but who knows?

To be honest, I would have my eyes on Chicago if I was him. Coach Q is on thin ice over there, and if they stumble out of the gates I could see him getting axed early on.

Who's to say that Lou isn't offering him some of that? Lou knows he won't be here forever and it could be a good opportunity for Trotz to transition from bench to front office.

Chris L. being here probably complicates that theory, but its interesting to think about.

Yep! This was my point about Trotz maybe wanting more say in personnel. Probably will not get that with Lou.

I'm sure there's a team or two that would kick their coach to the curb if he said he'd come coach there, but I'm not going to rule out the notion that he may just sit the year out and see what happens. I would hope he's interested in the Isles job but I wouldn't really be overly-surprised if he isn't.

I just see Lou being the type that I pick the players and you coach. Good thing is we will find out soon. Do not see this going past Friday.

Maybe Trots doesn't want to work for a guy who has no problem firing a coach while in 1st place with a handful of games left

Taking a year off sounds great on paper but there’s no way he pulls a Vanek and leaves all that money on the table. He’s gonna get PAID

You figure he wants to cash in now just winning the Cup, but he might figure he just cash in next year?

What makes you think he wouldn't get 5 million a year after sitting out a year?

Trotz really does hold all the cards. Isles need to move quickly and Trotz can sit out the year.
