(frank) Russian Bozak.

I'm not big on him either. I think a lot of his production was just because he played with stamkos and kucherov. I'd rather bring back bozak for cheap than pay to get namestnikov.

Leafs dont have 82mil in cap space..They are at 79mil because of bonus carry over from last yr..
- Fruitcakenipple

Compounded with the issue of Hortons contract, LTIR is not the same thing as cap space. We won't be truly out of cap hell until that contract expires.

Based on outside interest in the veteran centre. But, staying in Toronto remains an option.

Dreger: I think it’s unlikely the Maple Leafs re-sign Tyler Bozak

The Leafs are in a pretty good spot regardless of this cap situation. This is where the test of a good GM is really going to come into play. One thing Leafs fans should be thankful for is that out of so many crazy contracts in the league, the Leafs don't have any real albatrosses that will hinder them from doing what they need to do.

Just like the Pens and the Blackhawks before them, it came down to finding the right mix Veteran bargains and lucking out with a few decent young players to round out the lineup. Plus, Toronto should be a desired location now for players who may take a discount to get their shot at the cup.

I think you guys are gonna be just fine.

We don't have a cap problem in 2018-19; we have tons of space.

In '19-20, we still don't have a problem and can sign Tavares if he wants to play here; we can take advantage of the Horton LTIR once we're up against the cap, so again, no problems.

You guys should really read a couple of articles here and there or spend some time on CapFriendly. We are in excellent shape, cap-wise.

When you look at the cost of signing JVR and Bozak, wouldn't the money be better spent on Tavares? It would cost at least $9 Million to ink these pair and you might get Tavares for around $8M x 7 years. Maybe a trade with Lou on the Island, sends the rights to Tavares for the rights to JVR and both teams can lock up these two for the maximum 8 years. You can always find veteran help on the wings on 1 year contracts, so basically trading a 36 goal winger for Tavares might work.

It's also time to cut bait with Gardiner and sell high. His defensive mistakes diminish his offensive output and his kind of game does not translate into success in the playoffs.

Spezza could actually be a good option if the Stars were to throw in something else for the Leafs taking on his 7.5 mill cap hit. I'd imagine he would be an upgrade over Bozak on the 3rd line or at least be almost as good. He had an off year last year so this could be a great time to pick him up as a salary dump.

I don't think he would keep up as his skating isn't the best.
