Swap out Zaitsev, Gardiner, or both, for equivalent ~5M D if you want.

If Marleau retires, maybe there's an over-ripened Marlies prospect waiting to make the jump (Moore/Bracco, etc.), and we can keep Gardiner and Zaitsev and add a FA D.

Also note, these salaries are inflated: I don't think Tavares gets 12M, I also think Kapanen and Nylander are probably going to get significantly less than this (Nylander: 6M, Kapanen, ~2.5M, Connor Brown/Hyman territory).

Now the question is if Tavares is going to stay... I think he will, but... Big But(t), of recent FAs bolting, I can think of Parise who bolted on a stacked NJ team that made the Finals. Why? Don't know. Lou? DeBoer?

Leafs dont have 82mil in cap space..They are at 79mil because of bonus carry over from last yr..

Well, this year we're golden: we have a poop ton of cap space.

Bottom line: if we want to sign Tavares, we can and don't need a "hometown" discount either.

Here's a prediction. We don't use ltir and actually spend 3-4 below the cap....so we don't get (frank)ed with bonus penalties in 2019-20.
