Islanders can give him more money. Lou can give him a better team too. A lot of it has to do with money but he can have money and a better chance to win by going other places than Toronto. - Unholy_Goalie
Ok....you just don't get it...people have shown you players who "went home" to play....living at home for 2 months compared to living at home for 12 mths is a big difference but you play if off with your "what is he 10?" comment every time.
YOUR OPINION IS FAR FROM FACT, sure there's a good chance he doesn't sign with TO...but if he does...can you please delete your account?

Lou can't "just give him a better team"....players aren't lined up to play in TO ( supposedly )..........I doubt they're line up to play for the Isles either. |

That's not true because he doesn't know what other teams are willing to offer him.
If the Islanders are currently offering 10 a year for 8 years and he talks to other teams that offer him 12 a year for 7 years, he'd be losing out on money, so he goes back to the Islanders and maybe they give him 10.5 or 11 a year for 8 years instead.
He can't get whatever he wants. But he might get a bit more.
And again with this bullpoop "endorsements" fantasy... - Unholy_Goalie
You seem to be deeply confused on this point.
An 8th year does not mean that Tavares would ultimately earn less money over the length of his career.
In fact, salaries go up, and a seven year deal sets him up better because his next contract would be at 34, not 35. |

Bob McKenzie: "I've been lead to believe that the Leafs have creative proposals to present to Tavares if he reaches free agency"
Ok here’s a creative solution what about a one year 17 million dollar deal followed by an extension in October for a more reasonable 8-10mil deal.

This is a really cool idea to offer, essentially, a 9 year deal that comes with a huge payday up front that wouldn't be affected by the rules about year-to-year variation in long-term contracts.
It possible to sign an extension that quick? |

And you seem to be confused that a guaranteed extra year is likely more valuable to a player in his prime than risking a contract at 34. That being said, 35+ didn't stop teams from signing players to stupid contracts see Marleau with the Leafs. In fact, all this "going home" bullpoop probably comes in to play a lot more when he's older and the Leafs would be willing to overpay at that point. Full circle. |

I guess you can.
the part that is not allowed is talking about the extension as part of the 1 year deal...if it came out...Leafs would be in trouble..walking a fine line if you do that |

Significantly brain damaged. Probably regrets not taking the "guaranteed" cash over the "chance" to win. |

Marleau was a bad contract? He was fantastic last season, and is likely to continue to be. Even if his playing drops off a bit he's a great mentor to the younger players. |

It’s fascinating to me that a guy who can stay up until 4 am on a weeknight to argue about the value of Kamarov’s next contract can then reveal the inner workings of the minds of millionaire athletes.

I think I figured it out, UG is Tavares' agent... Or a family member, like 3rd cousin twice-removed type family member... Or, he's been stalking John Tavares. Any way you want to view it, once thing is for certain.. UG knows Tavares like Bo Knows Tecmo;

Trading for his rights does not give you the ability to offer an 8 year deal. |
