Little has a NMC/NTC and will use it. He's not going anywhere.

The Trouba situation is simple. If Trouba is willing to sign for a reasonable amount then he stays and Myers gets traded. If he or Overcharge get greedy then Trouba likely gets traded and Myers is extended.

It's not the end of the world to lose Trouba. He will fetch some serious assets for the Jets and allow us to sign Stastny.

Glad Hoffman went to an Eastern division team. That being said SJ is definitely positioning to acquire a major player with the cap dump of Boedeker.

I don't think the NMC/NTC goes into place until after July 1, 2018. I could be wrong, but that is when his new contract begins.

Rexypoo I am surprised you have not said one thing about Trotz resigning from the Capitals. I think Trotz would be an ideal candidate to replace Maurice.

Ha! Yes Trouba is a core member of this team, but I'm not sure I understand the speculation on salary differential between Morrissey and JT. I would propose that JM is just as important to this franchise......
- liverpoolnhl

JM is the Duncan Keith to JT's Brent Seabrook.

#14, a 2nd, a 3rd, Robert hagg for Trouba and a 5th

Make it sanheim and the picks and I’d think about it, but only if I knew I couldn’t sign Trouba. No interest in Haag

I am assuming everyone read the reasons why he resigned as his automatic extension which kicked in (for winning the cup) was valued "too low" for a Stanley Cup coach. He would have received slightly over 2 mill (I think, I could off on that #) and other winning coaches are earning big bucks like 5 mill +.

So, without further discussion, I think someone, NY perhaps, will be ponying up big time for his services. Is that contract value price out the market price for a small market like Wpg?

I haven’t really thought about it. Mostly because the Jets will never fire Maurice.

That said, a year ago I wouldn’t touch Trotz with a ten foot pole. He had the same problems as Maurice (over reliance on bad vets, inability to win when it counts, trouble making adjustments, etc.), but he seems to have turned a corner. Started trusting his kids, shook things up whenever necessary, got all his stars rolling at the same time, and utterly dumbfounded 3 teams that should’ve killed them in the playoffs. I’ll take Trotz over Maurice for sure.

Twitter saying Jets or Avs favorites for Stastny. Things will get interesting if true to make cap work.

Jets need to go big game hunting! I am all for trading Trouba as part of a package to get Erik Karlsson.

I hate myself for agreeing with this. Trouba is borderline elite, but Karlsson is generational

You should know better than to think I won’t make an entirely too literal, vaguely cynical joke when presented with the opportunity

I actually had this thought seconds after hitting submit,
I may be in the minority but I think Karlsson will fall very short of expectations on his next deal, injuries will play a major part.

Agree ... Pistol Pete has a great blog going here ... have enjoyed it - and comments - for some time and helps as an EXCELLENT diversion for this 'home-office' guy

That and the fact I love everything about the Jets ... more comments from me as time permits

I agree with you Ross. It's very dangerous to tie up $11 or $12 MM in one guy because it leaves so little room for flexibility. Chevy is pretty cost conscious and therefore it's highly unlikely you would ever see Karlsson in a Jet uniform unless it was a trade deadline deal next season.

if this purge in Ottawa continues and they find themselves well below the cap floor, maybe, just maybe, we might have a team interested in taking Kulikov's contract? we could always throw dano in.

I don’t know. He’s been alone at the top of the pyramid for so long, and he’s still young enough to stay there for 5-7 more years. He had a rough year (for him), but he was also coming back from a major injury on one of the worst teams we’ve ever seen. If he gets hurt the same way again? Problem. If not? He’s still the best there is.

Karlson is the best player in the league and most impactful defenceman since Bobby Orr. He has had a few injuries in his career - to his credit he has always come back strong. There is other defensive depth on the Jets to take a few of the minutes from Karlson and reduce injury risk. I see him as the premium PP QB in the league, good leadership and a guy you want on the ice especially when chasing a game.

The issue of reducing overall minutes when paying 10-11m is a problem for a different debate.

To OTT: Jacob Trouba, Andrew Copp, Nik Petan, 2019 1st round pick, 2018 2nd round pick

To WPG: Erik Karlsson

I can just imagine Karlsson sending saucer passes to Ehlers, Wheeler, Connor, Roslovic and setting up Laine and Scheifele for one timers.

Jets defensive pairings in 2018-19:

Morrissey-Karlsson
Myers-Byfuglien
Kulikov-Poolman

A deal would need to move out a lot more salary than Trouba (and no one should be too exited about losing Trouba), it would also require a Myers/Kulikov/Perreault/Mason size contract.

biggest problem with this pipe dream is I don't see either Karrlseon or Trouba signing extensions in their new locations.

again, maybe i'm wrong but I see this as a huge over payment. I also just don't see the jets making a habit of trading away our first round picks.

yes we are loaded with young guys on the team now but the pipeline for under 20 year olds not on the Jets isn't great outside of Vessalainen and Samberg.

you can get me on board on swinging for the fences for another elite center ( although I love Roslovic and think he will be that sooner than most ) like a Monahan, Barkov ect but I have no problem moving forward with Trouba, Buff and morrisey as our top 3 D getting the most mins per game.

The suggested was too much of an overpayment. It was a little more like counting on the lottery for a retirement plan and expecting that Karlson would make or break you.

We are close without selling out for Karlson but there may be a deal that makes sense due in part to the situation in Ottawa and opportunity for Jets to improve on paper. If it's happening I would prefer the sign&trade.

If Karlson were to be a one year rental what am I willing to give up? I would be thinking more like Myers & Perreault as core of a deal rather than Trouba & Perreault.

Hoping for a sign and trade if it happens.

Overpay. Also, keeping Myers is 100% not happening in the Jets/Karlsson alternate reality.

This is super easy information to find. Don’t even need “advanced stats” to it figure out.
