I feel that the difference is that there really is no stability with the Islanders. No real home rink, no number 1 goalie and terrible defense. Tampa just came off a SCF appearance the year before.

It's hard to rule them out completely, but I believe a deal could have been made already.

Lamoriello would not have taken on the challenge, if he wasn't confident about signing Tavares.

Another trade is coming. The next #1 centre won’t be Kotkaniemi or any drafted guy as they’re not NHL-ready yet. They are on Tavares (2% chance), or on the verge of getting O’Reilly or Carter for Pacioretty.

That’s the optimistic/naive version.

A Pacioretty for O'Reilly swap would only weaken the offense more

This trade may be worse than the Sergachev one, I think Hab fans are in for a lot more than just 1 more long season
- obie

I don't think so. At least they didn't trade a player playing a position they really need (LHD) for a player playing a position they have plenty (LW)...

I think he'll pick Kotkaniemi at 3 tbh....

I also fear he's the most overrated player due to the lack of really good centres in this draft so this would be the riskiest pick IMO...

Since when did you start making intelligent comments like that?

If I had to guess, I'd say he's gonna go with Tkachuk

He's probably the player that fits the Bergevin "attitude" description the most. Plus he's american so Timmins is gonna have a boner while calling his name.

I wouldn't mind the pick, I think the package he brings is pretty hard to find. He's not a goal scorer though and Montreal are really lacking those.

My god I hope the Sabres don't deal ROR for patches.

How so? O'Reilly just got 61 pts, at 27 years old, and he's behind Jack Eichel in the depth chart. Both Buffalo and Montreal had mediocre seasons and one player still performed well while the other collapsed with his team - while being the captain.

I get the grit and character and all that and I don't hate Max Domi by any means, he has the tools to become a Gallagher type player but at some point you have to start adding skill, Galchenyuk was probably the most skilled player on the team! It all started coming undone when he tried to short change Radulov! And as far as picking Tkachuk 3rd, I'd rather he trades the pick but then again with his track record when it comes to trades it almost feels like a lose lose situation

And you can eliminate the idea of drafting Tkatchuk with Domi coming in. The pick will be traded or used on a D.

What did I miss? why is Zadina no longer even talked about?

You don't think Pacioretty is a better offensive player than O'Reilly?

Better sniper, but O'Reilly is more complete and - IMHO - the best #1-ish centre that could be available at a decent price.

Minus Pacioretty, plus O'Reilly the Habs are still in the basement... I'd much rather trade Pacioretty for a 1st round pick and draft Hayton
