So when does MB send us the 3rd overall pick and Mete for Faulk and half a burrito? Oops, forgot the 35th and 38th are likely involved too, my mistake.
Trashers front office 2.0 will be waiting by the phones. - FinnGod
The thing is that everybody from others teams was saying how much he sucks and now that he is traded, he is like a god now?
Galchenyuk has skills but a lot of issues as well. The will was never really there. Maybe this is his wake up call. But he had no future in Montreal. |

I don’t think this is a bad trade value wise, but Domi is a passing winger, and the Habs have plenty of that, but no centres.
Seems like poor asset management. - Feeling Glucky?
I would agree with this. But maybe nodoby wanted to trade a centre for Galchenyuk or pick so mtl could draft one?
Anyway, it should be another long season in Montreal. With or without Pacioretty. |

This trade may be worse than the Sergachev one, I think Hab fans are in for a lot more than just 1 more long season |

This trade isn't nearly as bad as lots of people are making it sound. Domi might never be a 30 goal scorer, but he's better in pretty much every other facet of the game. He was also stuck playing for one of the worst coaches the NHL has ever seen last year.
It'll be interesting to see what they do at the draft. They have a ton of picks and are primed to make a big move. - Hunkulese
It’s a pretty classic Bergevin move in that it does absolutely nothing to move the needle of this team. They were a tire fire with Galchenyuk. Now they’re a tire fire with Domi. |

Oh he's moving the needle alright just not in the right direction... It's becoming pretty obvious he has no idea what he's doing and something needs to be done |

So Bergevin trades a soft on the wall, won't play defense Center/Winger for a high energy player who blocks shots, who goes to the dirty areas and is already working on making himself a better player by studying the playing habits of some of the best players who play the Center position and you people are pissed? I think you picked up a guy who you will enjoy watching because of how hard he will work. He will be a Brad Marchand type of player that will annoy the opposition on a nightly basis. |

Yea but who needs those?
And wait for Bergevin to "upgrade" the D again this summer, Habs wont even need to score goals! |

There are other motives for this trade. I think MB realized that at 2 years away from UFA, Galchenyuk’s value wasn’t going to get any higher. He would have been a rental if he would have waited until next summer.
So at some point you trade him for what you can. They got a player back that can play LW in the top 6, is a year younger and under team control for at least 4 more years.
No the Habs didn’t get a top C or top D back but you think other teams were lining up to trade that?
Galchenyuk is a soft one dimensional player who is a turnover machine. Very happy to get a player back that is still a skilled top 6 but has the grit and the complete game. |

The thing with Bergevin is that the team is not moving forward. The 5 years plan did not work out and now I really don't know if there is a plan.
Bergevin brings character on the team, but he does leave some skills off the team as well.
What is the goal of this team right now? Retool? Rebuild? Try to make the playoffs as soon as possible? And to what end? Nobody knows. |

I understand the fans are getting impatient it’s year 6 or 7 of a 5 year plan. But the reality is that MB is our GM, and this one trade wasn’t a bad one.
The summer hasn’t even started yet, he has the draft and free agency still and long summer months of trade talk.
We can choose to complain about him or we can give him another year or two to see what he’s got.
Worst case scenario we can start a full rebuild in 2 years like a lot of us have been dreaming about

Another trade is coming. The next #1 centre won’t be Kotkaniemi or any drafted guy as they’re not NHL-ready yet. They are on Tavares (2% chance), or on the verge of getting O’Reilly or Carter for Pacioretty.
That’s the optimistic/naive version. |

And you can eliminate the idea of drafting Tkatchuk with Domi coming in. The pick will be traded or used on a D. |

I feel that the difference is that there really is no stability with the Islanders. No real home rink, no number 1 goalie and terrible defense. Tampa just came off a SCF appearance the year before.
It's hard to rule them out completely, but I believe a deal could have been made already. |
