Bro watch a season of Risto or atleast more then 10 games, don't just look at paper. There are countless times that Risto was left out to dry... I honestly can't remember too many times where he was just totally torched. yes bad break out passes, sure that happens to the best of D-men.. Risto is NOT a bad player and I again would bet your life that he would be very desirable in the trade market.

He lets the other team skate into the zone with free reign. LOL

Sure is, it feeds the Buffalo fanbase here.

That's how bloggers from other teams get more hits on their sites....throw something about the Sabres in their blog....That's also why Ek almost always mentions that Buffalo is interested in most trades... Whoever Ek's "supposed" Buffalo source is needs to be replaced

I don’t think he’s awful, but it’s (frank)ing obvious he’s nowhere near a cup caliber 1 or 2.

He’s a second pairing D man who can put up PP points.

Just wait until Dahlin takes his PP time.

His perceived value will nose dive

That’s not an opinion. These things are measured.

Ristolainen gives up the zone, easily

Dahlin and Risto will both be on PP1 for the foreseeable future imo

This ^^^^

He'd have better luck just laying down on the blue line and hope somebody trips over him with how poor his entry denials are.

Considering they went from the best PP in the league 2 years ago to this, yeah, they'll consider changing it up

1-3-1 with Risto up top Dahlin and Eichel on their off wings, Reinhart in the middle and ROR down low.

Assuming there are no trades

how so?

23 year old defenceman playing 25 minutes a night on any team is impressive. Let alone the worst team of the last 5 years.

Either he and Dahlin form a nice pair, or he slides into the second pair. He's gonna be fine. Some people are raving about Hanifin. Don't get me wrong, he's a nice player, but 63% of his draws are in the Ozone compared to 54 for Risto. If Dahlin's emergence allows Risto to be on the offensive 63% of the time, it would benefit his 5-on-5 stats.

None of this happens in a vacuum, as much as the anti-risto crowd would like to make it true.

The team around him makes a difference

Not a troll job at all. I’ve made the same comment on completely neutral threads a few times. And I have nothing against the Sabres at all

Watch him play. He’s not good. The stats reflect that - his team is better when he’s in the bench

While Hanifin has a ways to go he is better at zone defense, zone exits, and zone entries.
