Another one that doesn't need to watch hockey to make up an opinion, just have to look at the stat sheet.

okay using your 1984 eyball test explain what RistLOLainen excels at?

Gap control?

Breakout passes?

Cross seam passes?

First step?

Foot speed?

If buffalo trades risto they're making a large mistake. Also I pray to God Edmonton can get rid of lucic. Worst contract in the nhl right now is not going to be easy to get rid of.

Ristolanus

Seriously:

No f'ing way should Sabres trade him, and no f'ing way should he even be in the "bad-trade-bait" convo along Milan f'ing Lucic. Holy crap some folks need a f'ing lobotomy.

The kid eats up minutes, gets decent points, almost never gets hurt, is very young, and on a very reasonable contract even if you think he's only a 3/4. Holy cheese and f'ing crackers.

Go look at some stat sheets. That should explain all of that for you.

Hey now 1984 was a good year....

really, you can't always look at metrics to determine a players worth... You have to look at the whole picture/Team. Do you really think that Risto would be horrible on a better defensive team with better goaltenders? Nobody here is saying that he is a lock down #1 d man. but you make him out to be crap...

nope not letting you off the hook that easily.

you have watched him hundreds off times.

what do his teammates or goalies have to do with him not defending the blue line well or exiting the zone with possession well?

Like I care what you want. "Go check out some stat sheets" was code for something else. You'll catch on eventually.

I'll try this one. First off, he plays a poop ton of minutes in ALL situations against the other teams tops lines, he hits like a freight train, is an average to above average skater. Had 2 disgustingly horrible goalies in front of him his WHOLE career.. Team Defense was nonexistent with the sabres the last 3-4 years because we were tanking on PURPOSE and this guys still puts up 40-45 points a year. And he is 23 years old. Put better players around him, I would be your life that his metrics get significantly better.

Who exactly are the better players he needs around him?

Most of his ice time is with ROR, Eichel, Kane, Okposo, etc.

Sure Gorges 3 seasons ago was terrible and McCabe and Scandella aren't spectacular but who does he need to be an actual positive at 5v5?

I guess that's fair, he reminds alot of Gardiner at that age. Hopefully he can learn how to play defense (didn't happen for Gardiner)

Is this a franking trick question?? JFC bro..... the sabres were collectively a MINUS 397, do your franking think that has something to do with stats? Our goaltenders were horrible too. lehner 3.01 GAA with .908 SP, Johnson 3.55 GAA, 891 SP..

Buffalo's adding Dhalin...so like, why the frank wouldn't they want to see how those two pan out together??
- mgriffen

I agree with you. I think they should keep him at least another season. My point was that its ridiculous to say he is worthless.

Ristolainen should not be traded...He's got a lot going for him and he's only going to get better when he gets a decent defense partner and a better goalie in net

Bro watch a season of Risto or atleast more then 10 games, don't just look at paper. There are countless times that Risto was left out to dry... I honestly can't remember too many times where he was just totally torched. yes bad break out passes, sure that happens to the best of D-men.. Risto is NOT a bad player and I again would bet your life that he would be very desirable in the trade market.
