NHL says Andrew Ference is 5'11"
Timonen, I left off the list because he played 8 minutes a game and had 0 points. It all counts I guess.
I wouldn't expect the 7oa pick to play 8 minutes a game in the playoffs. - manvanfan
I expect they'll pick a forward who can score goals so your concerns will be all but forgotten |

Correlation does not equal causation.
Orlov is 5’11”, so is Strallman. Enstrom is 5’10”. Their teams are all great — it’s not a matter of an inch or two holding them and their teams back from winning a cup.
Not advocating for or against, just think it’s sort of shortsighted to not pick a kid because he doesn’t magically reach the 6’ bar right now. - NewYorkNuck

Enstrom has never won a cup.
As I said, I have never argued Hughes won't be a good player. I'm just saying in terms of winning Lord Stanley. It is rarely done by a team that has a defender Hughes size. Even though as Canucksarmy states there are a lot of very good defenders his size in the league. |

I don't think that Hughes is even on JB's list. If Boqvist or Dobson are there. Probably getting one of them. JB has said he likes 4 forwards. |

I just think that’s a flawed argument. There haven’t been that many defenders that size in the modern NHL, so of course you’re going to find less of them winning a cup.
It’s like saying you can’t win a cup with a player of Australian origin. Hasn’t happened, so it won’t happen. Hyperbolic, of course.
Or the old argument about having European captains and how they couldn’t win a cup. Probably due in large part to the few number of Europeans that were actually captains of good teams.

I hope he signs in Vancouver, but if he signs in Philadelphia I won't be disappointed.

Nathan Walker.
It's more about drafting him at 7 then drafting him at all. Being his size, he has limitations. With other players that could be available at the position that had equally good seasons in their own leagues that aren't limited by size. |

I was never completely sold on the idea that Max Domi was a definite upgrade over the likes of Conor Sheary.
Pens blog Ryan Wilson.
Is he for real? Sheary has played with 3 of the best scoring players in the game for the past 3 years. |

There’s always one exception to the rule, isn’t there
Like I said, I’m not for or against — I don’t know enough about any prospects to say where they should be selected. I just find it strange in saying that a D who is 5’10” will be holding his team back, but a D 5’11” is fine/just won the cup. |

I wouldn't say "hold the team back". It's just less likely and seems to be harder for the team to win with a player that size.
5'11" actually only provides a few more names. 5 or 6 instead of 3 over the past 10 years. |

My point is — and I’m not at my computer right now or I’d do the research — is the percentage of those smaller D in the league. There are less of them in the league, so one would think it’s less likely to have one on your team and win.
How many D 5’11 and under have there been in the NHL out of how many have been on cup winning teams in the last 10 years? Then compare that percetentage to players 6’ and over... I’m sure it will be slightly higher for taller players, but not absurdly. |

65-10
Only players to play more then 20 minutes is Orlov, Daley 3 years ago and Ference back in 10-11.
It's literally equal. |

So 65 have played, 10 have won? Those aren’t terrible odds. 15% of players that small, if I’m reading that right. 4% with an impact, but I’d assume that’d be about the number of 6’+ players as well. |
