Still fine tuning my shortlist... For the most part I’m kind of underwhelmed by the popular options in our range. Depends on how it falls obviously, but I wouldn’t blame Benning for “reaching” or trading @ 7. Who are your guys this year?

I like Hughes or Dobson on defense. However, I don't think either of them has #1 stud dman potential. As for forwards, I'd almost prefer to trade down instead of drafting the ones that will likely be left at #7. There's 3 prospects that I really like that are projected to go in the 10-20 range. I'll probably post about them over the next few days.

And this is coming from someone who is usually against trading down.

Would people here be in to Lucic and 10th for nothing? He might an alright player to play with Petterson. Yes he sucks but he would bring some toughness and skill.

Id do that then Tanev for 12th overall if possible.

Pick up Spezza and a 2nd f
Then deal Sven and Sutter for highest picks possible.

If he needs to be coddled he can f*ck off. Trade his rights.
- Marwood

... Or we can treat/develop/support our assets properly (I don’t consider that coddling - just good business) & get the most out of them instead of turning them into disgruntled low value trade chips.

I believe he does. There's no transfer agreements between the KHL and NHL that would allow the NHL team to buyout the contract. At least as far as I know.

Also, waiting until next year for him to come back isn't the worst thing in the world. He's paying big minutes in Russia and even has a leadership role on his team, he can develop just fine over there instead of playing in a tire fire here.

- Nucker101

Gotcha, thats my feeling as well on tree. He had a good year by all accounts and sounds like he has improved. This team can't afford to waste what few quality players/prospecta they have.

I'm sure he was a bit of a female dog when leaving but it's not like mgmt deserves a free pass on this, it sounds like they dropped the ball a bit too.

Agreed. Salaries and ice time should be distributed to whichever player has the strongest feelings. Subban feelings > Tryamkin > Petterson. We should have never signed Pettersson

Yes please. Set the standard, you can't give every kid a chance and then be surprised when one isn't happy they aren't getting the free toy. Should be making it harder for kids to make the lineup, develop players in developmental leagues.

Tryamkin refused to play in Utica. He forced their hand. Sign him and gift him a spot or lose his rights. Two choices

If he is demanding top pairing minutes and the team is listening (hypothetically), then that is coddling.
His accepted refusal to go to Utica for a conditioning stint was coddling.
He doesn't seem to want to be developed. Trade his rights.

if he's developing in Russia instead and wants to sign here next summer for multiple years then I'd rather do that instead of trading him for a late 3rd round pick or a 4th.

If Hughes is there at 7, yes please. Dobson, no thanks. Other than that I think we’re probably on the same page - looking forward to your post

Because other kids had been gifted spots. It starts with JV, McCann and Hutton making the lineup when they shouldn't have

Sure, if his attitude has improved. I am not privy to his conversations with management. Personally, I think he is overated by our fanbase simply because he is huge and is a decent skater. He was pretty terrible at the worlds as well.

Ya if he's going to be an issue, I think it would be good as long as you got good value.

I think all three of them earned a spot. They were the best players in preseason. They should have been sent back to junior though after performance started to decline. I am not sure why the team refused to admit they weren't ready

In general, it seems on this board have really hard time evaluating young players. Tree had a great year, made huge stride and ran out of gas. his value should be sky high.

Kids do good in the preseason all the time. Good teams make it harder, it's the bottom line.
