Yeah but they are the same scouts that most of us in here call idiots , so I am okay with that.

Watching him play , nothing about his skating stands out to me.
Yes he is seen as good defensively.
Another Hamhuis.
Pass.

Power forwards just take longer to develop is all

... is what people say with no statistical support other than Todd Bertuzzi and like... busts.

For the one Todd Bertuzzi there are like 20 Brad Isbisters.

I think you are taking this the wrong way. If we draft him fine . No complaints. Not my first choice. We will acquire a second pairing Dman just like OJ. I am just hoping for something more dynamic with the pick

essentially OJ.

You're guaranteed a player but you're not getting a difference maker.

I hope he gets used a lot in OT next year. His skillset is well suited to it.
- NorthNuck

Agreed. My fear is this team doesn't make it to OT often next year

Great skater, great shot. I think you're underestimating him a bit. But that's the fun of the draft! I'm hoping some teams like arizona and Detroit go a little off the board and we end up with boqvist or hughes. Bouchard would not be a disappointment for me.

I don't really care who we take. I want Wahlstrom the most to be honest. I am happy with anybody other than the Swedish runt.

I don't understand the comparison between Dobson and OJ. Not at all. Dobson is a better skater and a better defender. He also had more impressive offensive numbers as well.

This guy is unreal at player breakdowns. I've watched a fair bit of my own tape, and I think Valeno is the best center in the draft due to his speed.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iavHVyP9q28

Defence is the only one I would disagree. Hayton was primarily the shutdown center for SSM this season. I would rank him ahead of Kotkaniemi.

I can't shake the feeling that if it wasn't Brady Tkachuk and was like... Brady Ketchoop, he'd be talked about as a mid first versus a top end talent.

As for the bolded, remember when everyone was like "Brayden Schenn is basically Eric Lindros. Look at him run over that 16yr old, 145lb dman in the WHL."? I 'member.

A lot of "power" players in amateur leagues are nothing special once they play against men because men aren't kids. Yet it seems the potential of getting the One Guy that can tricks teams every year into reaching and selling themselves on the idea.

Schenn running over teenagers vs Tkachuk running over adults in NCAA. One is not like the other

We’re fun shy.

Edit: I meant gun shy, but that works too.

Not sure what he's worried about. Brayden Schenn just had a 70 point season. He's 6th in his draft in scoring. Power forwards take longer.

The problem is that we need a number one D so badly, but aren’t likely to get one where we are drafting. On the bright side, we need everything pretty badly, so we can’t really go wrong.

Bringing in below average skaters is a mistake. Luckily JB has mention many, many times he's looking for skill and speed
- neem55

Skill, speed and RH PP QB

so.... Boqvist

Unless they trade the pick for an active player in order to speed up the process.

yup, chances any of these D after Dahlen are true #1's is remote. But we need a #1, #2 and #3. start somewhere? Or just go BPA with Whally

If we somehow leave the draft with both Valeno and boqvist, I'd be over the moon! Even if Dobson was drafted before him.

Sorry for my late response. Got busy at work. I meant a good group of forwards coming up. Our d needs help, and right now I think all of them are signed for next year.

If we somehow get Hughes I'd be so happy. Realistically anyone we get at 7 should be pretty good moving forward.

I'd be happy to see Benning just keeping the pick and selecting one of the more likely to succeed players, including:

* Zadina
* Hughes
* Dobson
* Tkachuk
* Wahlstrom
* Kotkaniemi
* Boqvist

If Hughes or Zadina is still available at 7, grab them and run

It's a fun draft to speculate on, because there are so many players in the 3-15 range who could be argued as the one to take, given different opinions and assessments of BPA/need

I read an interview the other day with Paul Fenton (ex AGM of NSH, current GM of Min) who said that everyone always thought Nashville prioritized defenseman or had a build from the backend out approach but it's not true.

Every single pick they made was BPA, it just so happened that Dmen were slotted in their spot.

Teams are always calling about your good players and it's much easier to trade for positions of need than to predict what a teenager is going to become.
