I was making sure we had a 5'10 guy on each pairing, just so we can be really good in todays nhl. |

Why can't I assume they have top pairing potential? You are all assuming that Hughes is going to be a 50 points 2nd pairing D. - manvanfan
Because you're failing to say why you think they have top pairing potential.
I need more than just point totals and height. How are they defensively? What's their gap control like? how is the player at anticipating what the opposing team is going to do defensively? I don't care how tall you are, if you're questionable in those areas against junior players, then I doubt you have 25 minute NHL dman potential.
Not every tall dman in the NHL who has offensive skills is someone who can play 25 mins a night on a cup winning team.
And no where did I say Hughes is for sure going to be a 50 point dman lol, read again. |

you don't pass on hughes just because he won't be a top pair shutdown guy
different consideration when it comes to boqvist however due to higher risk factors |

Defence can be taught. Offence can't. Size also can't be taught.
He may not have Dobson’s size and defensive awareness, or Boqvist’s raw skill; but he’s arguably the most well-rounded defender in the draft outside of the guy we all know is going to go first overall. That’s enough to slot him in as the eigth-best prospect in this year’s draft.
Canucksarmy about Ty Smith. Even they use size as a judgement.
They almost explain there own reason for being so far off in ranking defenders then NHL scouts. |

I guess here's where we disagree. I guess there's a lot of lazy or just flat out stubborn taller dmen out there who refuse to defend....
Looks like they use "defensive awareness" as a judgement too. Interesting. Can awareness be taught? Someone tell Virtanen and David Booth!
To put it into simpler terms. I view Bouchard and Hughes both as offensive players who will be limited defensively. I simply prefer the player who is flat out better in my eyes. |

My opinion on all of these kids and our organization is we need highend talented kids. We don't need a kid who can do it all, you can pair a smooth skating puck caring dman with a partner who is the opposite of what he is but we dearly need more talent within the organization. |

The thing people don't realize about Hughes, and I didn't notice it until WC, is that despite his small size he still held his own vs NHL players. The kid has top pairing potential(a #2 not a #1). IF he grew a couple inches(which could technically happen) the kid could be seen as a future #1. Give him a more mobile Gudbranson and you will have a solid top pairing someday(unless he busts) |

Yup - nobody here knows that Bouchard and Dobson can’t be a number 1. |

Size when you're an extremely skilled player is no matter to me, when you're undersized and just good offensively I'm not a fan. |

nobody here "knows" anything for sure about any of the top prospects' futures. Neither does a scout or GM. We're all just guessing. |

There's way too many blue collared players in the Canucks organization, they lack skill in the worst way, that needs to change before they can be successful. |

People here have been complaining about the pathetic point totals from our defense for years and now all of a sudden we're too good for a guy who can potentially put up big points but won't play 25 mins a night |
