So get rid of the best one?
Oh ok.

- Fakepartofme

Keep a 35yo career .909 or a 24yo one you put 7 years of development into that just came off one of the best seasons in AHL history.

seems pretty simple to me

Meh, let them take pickard
- Fakepartofme

trade or dump Mcbackup, make Sparks the NHL backup, Pickard starts for the Marlies (assuming they can keep him)..you keep younger developing players

So i decided to read Eks post

How is this a win/win? Tavares has to cash in on what he's earned...
1 year x 20 mil with Toronto = 20 million
8 years x 8 mil with NYI being nice = 86 million..

why leave 46 million dollars on the table to play a year for Toronto? Sure maybe you win a cup, but also maybe you get concussed and don't sign another contract again, or only put up 20 points and now you're worth 2 million instead of 8.

- jvanbred

8x8 ...= 86

leaving 46 mil?

anyways..he could sign for 16 mil then sign again for 12x8 getting 112mil

not likley..but a decent risk if its only the money

Sparks hasnt proven anything at the NHL level yet. He needs to prove he can play first.
Great at the AHL level.

Bettman convinced JT to stay with the Islanders; Probably guilt-tripped saying that if he left, he would be directly responsible for the death of hockey in Long Island/Brooklyn.
- PatC80

the move to Brooklyn did them in.

their whole home arena is just a mess but there is hope once they get their new building straighten out.

I really doubt Dudas is willing to lose Sparks to keep him.

Maybe if Nonis was in charge still id agree thats what they would do

I say he gets something similar to Draisaitl in terms of % of the cap, so close to 8.75-9M

Every time I have seen Marchment play he has been impressive. He doesn't get discussed much so I have to wonder if there is some pretty good reason why he is not considered one of their better prospects. He looks better than the Goat though.
- Aetherial

Works hard but not sure he's an NHLer. Barely ever put up big numbers in his hockey career so you know he's a bottom six guy. I'd rather have him on an ELC than Matt Martin but he's a dime a dozen player.

A lot of players look better than Gauthier. Gauthier is the Andy Wozniewski of centers. As the physical structure to be an NHL player but everything else is just lacking and seemingly stagnant.

Well, the EITHER DERMOTT OR LILJERGREN, OR JOHNSSON OR GRUNDSTROM stuff was pretty dumb.

All 4 of those guys + Kapanen look like they should be NHLers. 4 of them could be full-time this season, with Liljergren getting the Dermott treatment as well.

All of these teams had guys that looked promising, guys that should have made it. Spoiler alert; only some of them did.

So when somebody starts listing 5, 6, 7 guys who will all play 200+ games, including names like Moore, Marchment and Rosen, it's fair to say that some people are being overly optimistic.

Equally hilarious, the same people will say "Robbie Earl" as some how that's a counter argument to the idea that not all of the Leafs prospects will be impact players. Some will, some won't. Just because they look good now doesn't mean they'll be effective NHLers. Only time will tell that and the reality is that half of them won't stick or won't be impact players. That's not to poop on the Leafs, that's just player development. It's just the way it usually works.

I dunno, id consider it wrong to expect only two of Dermott/Lilegren/Grundstrom/Jonsson to make the NHL and play 200 games. It say its more likely all of them play 200 games+

Dermott is already on the team essentially, and Jonsson is a lock. The other two have a very good chance to be on the team in the future. Not saying theyll be superstars, but come on.

- Archaic

Johnsson is a "lock"? He's tiny and he's played 9 NHL games. 15 if you include playoffs. That's not a "lock".

None of these guys are "locks". They're promising young players. I like them too. But to sit here and pencil them all in as NHL success' is just being blindly optimistic.

And playing 200 games doesn't mean much unless there's some quality to that playing.

His point was not the specific names... it was just plugging the most likely Marlie names into a scenario we could typically expect.

We all know there are 4 or 5 Marlies that are candidates to have a decent NHL career but probably only a couple will

- Aetherial

He is really only talking about averages. The Marlies may have an exceptional class this year (it would sure help, given our cap in the next few years). Odds are only a couple are significant players.
- Aetherial

Bingo.

But certain people see a certain user name and their default position is to bury their head in the sand.
