I think your math is way off. First off the cap is projected to be 78M-82M for next year

Lets just tackle a serious gaffe on your part, why in the holy puck would Kapanen get 4M per year? Thats in Chiarelli territory dumb. Try closer to 2M-3M range close. The Leafs could fit Tavares if they want to. Lots of ways to get around it.

Here are examples for the years after next year, as next year isnt a issue. Leafs potential lineup.

Gee, for some reason that line up doesn't scream 'Stanley cup Champs' to me. Some no names and 3 million for Kap? Lilybust is already a top 4? Have you seen him play? Was at a Marlies game and he looked small (got rocked a few times on the end boards) and doesn't seem strong on defense... (see Gardiner)...

Carolina's ask for Noah Hanifin would start with Jake DeBrusk. For the Bruins, that's close to a non-starter.

They trading him???

Top 5 scorers for the 2012 Norfolk Admirals playoff run. Only 1 played 200+ games (not the playoff MVP by the way). It's not 0% just like it's not 100%. It's 50/50. I know they just won the Calder Cup and we all love our prospects but the reality is they won't all make effective NHL players. If they all do, that's great, but it'd be a massive over-achievement and not so much an expectation.

or will it be because Hunter was a drafting genius and we should've made him GM over Dubas? Damnit Shanaplan!

Thats two years from now, and just an example, clearly other pieces can be moved around. Take the salary and do with it what you please. Its just one demonstration via the Athletic that I have seen from many that could easily fit in Tavares. Also, after Marleau is off the books there will be lots more room.

Some of the salaries on there are clearly more then they will end up being as well, so I am confident it can be done.

Dont forget the cap will keep going up.

It does suck that only one of Dermott and Lilegren can make the NHL....hope we choose the right one

That was one of his more retarded not well thought out rants. Apparently thinking 7 players play 200 games, which isn’t a lot, means I think all prospects will become HOFers. Like, seriously dude, are you really this lonely you have to argue about nothing...all the time?

Agreed with UG on all accounts

Also barfing

UG is not wrong at all in his assessment.

My problem is simply that he should just give it a rest already. Just enjoy the fact that the Marlies won, and there are a couple guys who are likely to be NHL'ers, for one freaking second.

did anyone actually watch the marlies whole playoff run on tv or the internet and if so how?
this might be the closest the leafs get to winning a stanley cup in my lifetime and i missed it's entirety.

The news with Marner's contract ain't great either. I mentioned earlier this year that his agent is a bit of an bumhole, and it's starting to look like they're going to drag out negotiations as much as possible, and get a big contract next summer. I think it's extremely unlikely he signs this year. Which also means Matthews might take the wait and see approach.

Knowing this, if I'm Dubas, I'd prioritize getting Nylander signed as cheap as possible, as early as possible, and then focus on getting Matthews signed this offseason. That way you set kind of a floor and ceiling for Marner's contract. But something might have to give after next season, like finding a way to get Marleau off the books, even if it's just a trip to the island.

I think Sparks is the backup next season.
Dermott and Johnsson easily make it.

longer shots but should get some time at some point Aaltonen, Holl, LoVerde, Borgman, Grundstrom and Moore

Holl and Borgman depends on what Dubas does with the D. but they are fill ins for bottom pairing not much more imo

- senstroll

I think with how well Rosen played throughout the playoffs, he's got a legitimate shot at being on the team.
