Hanzal and McGinn ARE bad contracts, particularly once you factor in the added cost of retaining money on Lucic's deal. Lucic at 4.25mil is a solid cap hit for what he usually brings and would even be palatable if his performance last year is the new norm.

Jamie McGinn with one season left at 3.3 is not problematic. Lucic, even with some retained for 5 more years is super problematic

My bad, thought it was longer term Dubinsky out of Columbus could be an option but in that case, I don't think it'd make such sense for Edmonton to withhold much of anything.

We're in the same boat with Okposo (and to a lesser extent Bogo). I've looked at all of these. I've considered Ryan, Perry, Gaborik, Lucic. If there's a bad contract out there, I've considered it.

If Ottawa moves Karlsson (e.g. Islanders) and if they get the Islanders two 1st round picks (11th and 12th) it would give Ottawa 4 first round picks. In that case I would see them surrendering the 4th pick (2018) to Colorado.

I see the Islanders putting a huge push on Karlsson as part of their trying to get to the next level with Tavares.

A #4 pick is a #4 pick, but the mystery 2019 1st rounder could be anything ... it could even be a #4 pick!

I'd say the markets for each player differ too much to compare even despite their similarities.

If the Sens get rid of Hoffmans wife (read that as 'when'), then Karlsson will resign in my opinion. I'd think Karlsson would have indicated a timeline he wants to follow for that to happen so the clock is ticking.

To the mod who actually banned me for four hours:

Option (a) - If you did it for cheap laughs, I salute you. Hilarious.

Option (b) - And if not, I weep for our future.

Ask & you shall receive.

I'm thinking option 'a' was taken.

RNH is basically a 1st overall bust and you think it's a good and fair deal to trade Erik 'overrated' Karlsson for him?

How much + is actually behind that RNH+? RNH is probably the second most overrated 1st overall pick in recent memory. Only behind fellow Ex-Oiler Nail Yakupov. So you’d have to add a poop load to that trade from a Oilers standpoint something they don’t really have the resources to do unless they are dismantling their team to just get Karlsson on the backend.

Probably cost them this year’s first and next year’s first, Yamamoto, Nurse/Klefbom and RNH.

Niedermeyer was the #4 pick, so your analogy is weird.

But yeah - give away the pick this year. Next year is going to be terrible for the Sens.

- Atomic Wedgie

This year was almost as terrible as it could have possibly been, and they're picking fourth. probabliity wise, they have to keep it

I agree with what you are saying but have to try and have a plan. Karlsson/Hoffer is what it is now. Est Final was a mirage - same as the collapse Toronto had with Kessel versus Boston a while back - not good enough - made the decision and now have Nylander/Marner/Mathews to show for it. At least Ott has pieces Toronto never had.

If they expect to fall next season, might as well bet on that. Don't see much competition for the bottom - Arizona has to start making a move up, Montreal will be competitive with a healthly Price and Weber, Buff should be better. Lane is wide open for them to have a decent shot at Hughes.

- Revised12

You mean a 20% shot at best? With the train wreck of poop going on with the franchise these days, there is zero % chance of them winning any lotteries

Only good thing is that if we give up a top 10 pick that should mean the end of our beloved GM.

I said it then, Duchene will not put us over the bump and Turris is at least an equal player. And we've seen the result. What a mess. A bad trade becomes worse and worse every second.

Jack Hughes the best player since Austin Matthews? Lol that don’t say much for poor Jack. I’m sorry but “generational talent” don’t disappear in the playoffs. Sad
