Here’s an O’Reilly trade I’d be good with:

To Buffalo
#7 overall- pick Wahlstrom (LW)
Goldobin- middle6, young NHL LW
Gaudette- bottom6, young 2way center

To Vancouver
O’Reilly
*possibly add a prospect like Cj Smith if necessary

Gaudette should become at least a good defensive 4C, to play defensive situations & allow Jack & Casey to focus on scoring

Wahlstrom is a sniper type LW prospect in the draft, so there’s 1 spot filled
Probably needs a year in college or AHL though before he joins the Sabres

Goldobin is a LW that should at least be able to be a decent 3rd liner, maybe be a decent 2nd liner that can score something like 20-30-50pts if developed & ends up in an offensive role
He’s a Russian who’s played in N.America for 5yrs, so I’m not worried about him wanting to leave for the KHL
And he could be a guy who helps us recruit a good player or 2 from over there

19-20
WAHLSTROM-Eichel-Okposo(if not traded)
GOLDOBIN-Mittelstadt-Reinhart
NYLANDER-Rodrigues-OLOFSSON
Wilson-GAUDETTE-Baptiste
Bailey
*other guys who may be “ready” should any of the above struggle:
O’Regan-Asplund-Pu
______-Malone-Fasching

- jdfitz77

FWIW I think Wahlstrom is going to be one of the best of this draft. I like that he was targeted, but I simply don't believe that RoR will get a return of two quality prospects and a top10 pick.

Also I like Goldobin and would target him in another trade if I could.

Hanifan is an RFA. What type of deal would you see him signing? I would be happy if it was the same deal as Risto signed. The only thing that I would see being an issue is ROR's contract. Carolina seems to be a cheap team, however with Brind'Amour now their head coach, I could see him loving a player like ROR.

On a side note, if this did happen, I would be fine with signing Ward for 2-3 years. Goalies like to have some familiarity playing in front of them.

- adambuffalo

Idk, a left hand D when we already have a ton, and Skinner who is due a substantial raise for ROR ++?

Gotta say, Carolina is probably my least favorite of these scenarios, other than ROR for Galchenyuk

A ToP pAiR oF HaNiFaN aNd dAHlIn

lol. Combined in age they would be 38. I'm not having a top pair going against the likes of Crosby, Stamkos, McDavid, Matthews, and Tavares when neither can even legally drink alcohol.

I am REALLLLLLY getting sick of "let's bank on these kids to do all the heavy work.. they will pan out to be SUPASTARS!!!"

- JVince11

Sorry to disturb you with it, but I just believe we need to see the likes of Bailey, Baptiste, Malone, Nylander and Smith for a season. If we truly aren't going to be competitive next year, and will be at the bottom of the barrel, what's the perk out of signing another Pouliot to take one of their spots away?

I'd love me some Dahlin and Hanifin. It would probably be brutal to watch for a year or two, you're right, but that could be one of the better one two punches in the league after that. Maybe it ruins both, who knows. I just doubt it.

Just spit balling, but lower the pick compensation, compensatory picks for any team that signs an RFA, a low percentage lottery chance in the following lottery.
- TheSabresTaco

I like the idea of compensatory picks in general, it doesn’t even need to be related to offer sheets. Makes the sting of players walking in FA more palatable and the extra assets would be nice for trades or just using to help the prospect pool, they would need to be higher picks tho like a second rounder for Tavares walking as an example...which in essence becomes a first

So just start them for the (frank) of it regardless of what our GM says and if they're ready?

Having seen Bailey and Baptiste, they're ready, or as ready as they're going to be. Malone and Smith are both older and found success in the minors already. Nylander is the only one you can make that argument against IMO.

I'll trust Botts, Sextons and Taylor's opinions on the matter. I agree with the players you listed with the points you made, but if they're partially or all not here, there's a reason for it, and that reason is they're not ready.

I hope CJ is ready. Malone is a wild card to come up this year but my gut says he doesn't make it out of camp. Then again, if Larsson gets punted into the sun, anything is possible

When have you ever seen such two young guys paired together though? No team does that? They always stagger that. OEL, Dougie, Ekblad, Ghost, Parayko, etc. They got paired with a more "vet" type guy on a 2nd line then molded to 1st line or that borderline 1/2 lines that I covet where the talent is equal on both top pairings.

I won't be in the area around that time of year right now. That's a travel month for work for me right now.

That is what it will all be dependent on. If Pouliot resigns or we resign the like, Girgs, Larsson and Nolan are still here...we're not calling much up. Botts likes the slow roll, I get that, just don't agree with the way our team is performing. If we want a culture change, I see no better way than promoting the always hard working Bailey, Baptiste and Smith....oh and Nylander can come too, but that's something else entirely.

Our roster should get a lot of turn over either way. We shall see what's remaining and what holes get filled.

I would look into signing Carlson, doubt he’d want to come here but he would be great to pair with Dahlin, help him get acclimated as a fellow Swede, veteran dman, and he has the winning experience from the cup last year.

Von Dudensteins,

I don't want to trade ROR. I'm worried they do it and then realize we only have one center. We have to wait and see what Mitts can do. We'll be chasing are tail for years. We're coming out of the tank still so no its not what we've already been doing for years. In before Broads tells us we're 31st place.

I wonder if bringing in Enstrom for a year or 2 might be a good idea for Dahlin

I said before that Vancouver should try to get both Nylanders so they can have two Swedish brothers leading their team for another 15 years.

Offer sheet William
Trade #7 oa for Alex we can add a 3rd or 4th if needed.

Then Buffalo can package #7 oa and #32 to try to move up to the top 4

- adambuffalo

Our Nylander has done nothing but struggle
While he still has a high ceiling,
he doesn’t have anywhere near the trade value to get pick #7 imo

Also..... Wahlstrom > Tkachuk
At least as a pure scorer
No reason to move up from 7 unless we can get to 3 for Zadina
And even then,
might cost us more than it’s worth
Wahlstrom is a sniper
We’d be set with Jack’s LW if we can get him

Dreger said again this morning:

"Buffalo with big interest in Hanifan and Canes have mutual interest in ROR."

I wouldn't do it 1 for 1 that's for sure.
