I also want to add that had our top 2 goalies not gotten hurt this team would have easily made the playoffs. As it is, they still made the playoffs and not as a wildcard. They did this DESPITE having a goalie carousel over the last 2 months that would make Dorney Park jealous.
Of course my opinion is based on not having to deal with those kinds of injuries again. - MBFlyerfan
The bold statement is classic.
And yes this team was so snakebit with goalies it was crazy. |

more importantly what does it do for Provorov??? - corduroy
Yotes just signed their franchise Dman at 8x8 through his prime. I think that brings Provorov numbers down tbh |

I don't ever, ever want to read another post that states that we should let Simmonds go because Morin can handle the enforcer role... - SuperSchennBros
But Morin can (once healthy) if your only arguement is that the team is weaker without Simmonds...BiggE laid out a few good reasons why it would make sense to trade him...Everyone thought we would not replace Schenn's numbers when he was traded and that worked out ok last year and may work out even better in the long term...My only point was if you are looking at toughness, there are guys that can fill that role...and I don't want Simmer sitting in the box anyway to fill that role.
I want Simmer on the roster next year and maybe the next 3 after that, but there is a strong case with an offer Hexy can't refuse that it makes sense to move him. |

Sanheim 6'3" 181
Hagg 6'2" 204
Provorov 6'0" 202
I think Ill disagree with your Sanheim assessment. But I DO agree that they maybe they don't have enough edge. - MBFlyerfan
Sanheim assessment? my comment about another year in the AHL was about Myers. Yes Sanheim is big but he doesn't play a big game. He weighs just over 200 right now, he needs another 8-10 pounds. Hagg hits and 6'2 is decent but they need those 6'4 with reach and edge. I do honestly believe if Morin was healthy the D would be better rounded. just for this season, if they could find a vet D, who was at least 6'2, was real good with his stick and hit like Gudas of old, I would jump on it.
Playing Pitt exposed the D, just not good enough as constructed. The current D need a real good off-season. Two rookie D in Sanheim and Hagg, what is the chance that one of them hit a sophomore slump?
The other reality, a D or two will get hurt this season...

there were a good amount of people who thought schenn's numbers would easily be replaced if i'm remembering correctly. |

Correct. Most said the addition of Patrick and Lindblom would help as well as a bounce back from G and growth from TK. This was achieved even without Lindblom playing with us most the year. Having said this, it was predominantly SuperSchennBros who claimed it wouldn’t be replaced with a few randoms I can’t recall. Wild guess is also MJL. |

You are correct, "everyone" was a strong term...I guess I would say like on any topic, there was a good amount of skepticism that this could set the team back another year or two until the draft picks filled in...TK has been great right out of the gate and once Patrick was healthy it was not missed...but no one really saw a 102 point season out of G, he was not going to be as bad as when he played through the injury the year before, but his play was lights out on the wing... |

definitely, just pointing out some people didn't think it would be a problem. i don't think people thought Giroux, voracek, and couturier would all have the year they had. |

I believe the phrase was "Hextall has already forfeited the season," or something to that effect. |

Is it me or is the NHL skyrocketing to the top of the worst league list with all these off-ice incidents?
It is getting really bad, I miss the days when hockey was filled with monsters who were down to earth good people off the ice. |

not sure if this is what he's talking about, but I was just reading something about mike Hoffman's girlfriend harassing erik karlsson and his wife. some of it about the death of their child. they were denying it though.

I'm thinking of one two punches. Forsberg and Gagne. Lindros and LeClair. Obviously Giroux and Voracek. My question is the wingers. I think we really miss a pure shooting two way winger. All situations guy. Can pop you 40 goals.
Gagne in his prime or Voracek in his last four seasons? Who do you take? |

To be fair, how many other teams are missing a 40 goal scorer
I'd like someone with a shoot first play style too but won't break the bank for it |

I wouldn't call Voracek a pure shooter.
Draft? Free Agency? Not easy to find a pure 40 goal scorer.
Draft wise, other than the obvious ones near the top (Svechnikov, Zadina, Wahlstrom) IMO maybe Kravstov, but he may not even play in the NHL.
Free Agency...Tavares and that's not even a guaranteed 40 goals. |

I personally believe the Flyers have lacked that player since Cater. Even if they don't score 40+ goals, they need someone to get the puck to the net often and from anywhere on the ice at times. |
