Never was on market to start with.
Him staying in Arizona means he's not thát interested in actually winning a Stanley Cup.
I guess you could say he's quite rational - chances of winning the Stanley Cup are very slim to start with for any team ; so better take the 64million contract with the known team and city.

We laugh (cause it's funny), but what if JT goes to MTL? Also Carlson signs there too and Price has s rebound year.. all of a sudden the habbies are still a giant pile of steaming pooh. - Arctic_AARDVARK

Apparently he was going to be on the market if they couldn't get him signed.

If you are referring here to a trade of Tavares' rights before July 1st, I just don't see that happening.
Now that teams can talk to pending UFAs up to a week before July 1st, there's just no incentive for a team to trade anything of value. Why would you? - Atomic Wedgie
I never understood why you would before. I refuse to believe that teams really have no idea going into July 1 whether or not they have a chance to sign a guy.

Yes there is. Exclusive rights to talk to him and being able to offer him an 8th year that nobody else can give him once July 1st comes.

Someone said a while ago on here that the only team that can offer him 8 years is the Islanders. Even if his rights are traded. They said that in order for the team to offer a player 8 years, that player had to be on their roster by the trade deadline.
I didn't look it up or anything so I can't actually say for sure, but if that is correct, then even if a team trades for his rights, they can't offer 8 years. It would need to be a sign & trade.
